I am in happy shock.
For years I've hated my birthday, it never was a happy day and shit always went wrong. So I started asking people to just stop trying, I'd rather have uneventful than heartbreaking. This year was shaping up to be no different. But... people actually care about me.
My sales rep, Robin, asked me about my plans, and I told her I didn't really have anything set up. I have to work on Monday (my bday) anyway. She comes over and hands me a gift bag.. with a hand-made card. She gave me these GORGEOUS peridot dangly earrings (that surprisingly match the outfit I have on today..) and this AMAZING black sarong with kind of a shadowy pattern and purple/teal things on it.. and it's silk! I'm flabbergasted that not only did she pay so much attention to my style, but that she got such incredible gifts! I cried. Then my boss starts asking what's going on, so I showed him what Robin did, and he says "Well it's good you did it today since she won't be here Monday." What? He gave me my bday off! I'm still gonna come in to help out though since we're so short-handed.. So then he says "Great! Then we can have an official party!" And since then everyone here has been coming up to my cubicle and adding little happy bday streamers and balloons and now my desk looks like Mardi Gras barfed on me.. HAHAHAHA!! WOW! This is the most amazing pre-birthday... It feels good. It feels really really good.
