Movie Night presents: Crank 2
Tomorrow's choice for the bi-weekly Movie Night I've been hosting is a bit of a departure from the short string of movies I've shown so far. I started with the BluRay version of The Wizard of Oz, then showed Julia (w/ Tilda Swinton), and Exploding Girl. All three have been great films. The choice for tomorrow is Crank 2 (on BluRay), a ridiculous action film starring Jason Statham.
As absurd as the movie is, it actually has, in my opinion, some really creatively brilliant moments. And in terms of the pacing, it's just as well done as a commonly praised film such as Run Lola Run. The acting is a joke and the characters are ludicrous, some of them risible at best, but that's exactly what the movie is: a wanton caper whose sole intent is to entertain. And entertain it does.
