Tika, our most-beloved kitty, died last night. She had grow progressively weaker over several weeks, fighting colon cancer, possible cancer in her nose, and anemia. My wife is convinced that she was just waiting for me to get home and say my goodbyes, and it sure seemed like that was the case. I got home at around 7:45 last night, and within a half hour, she had passed.
We will miss her terribly, but we are relieved that her suffering is over. We're relieved that she died warm and at home, rather than on a cold exam table at the veterinarian's office with an I.V. in her leg. For us now, she is a kitten cavorting around Buddha while he meditates. With any luck, when the time is right for her to be reborn, she'll come back to us.
Goodbye sweet cat. We'll miss you.
UPDATE: Ryan Sohmer, creator of the amusing and often excellent Webcomic Least I Could Do, also lost a longtime companion recently. I'm not trying to be maudlin or anything, as
this comic eloquently expresses the sentiment.
