While you were busy lighting roman candles on the yellowcake

Good afternoon, all! I'm back after a brief 2-day stint on the job in San Diego.

It was a good and productive work trip, which I'm very happy about. I got to see a working demo of the functional area I'm leading, and it warmed my heart considerably to see this THING that I've been slinging around in the form of paper screenshots and technical specifications has actually made it into a quasi-usable form.

Last weekend, the wife and I took Friday off and headed up to Sonoma County to see our good friends aduvanchek, sweeney_o, blackmoondog and smittyhalibut at the annual Bohemian Symposium. We got to San Francisco early (around 12:00), picked up the rental car, and headed to Ton Kiang for lunch. It's been a long damn time since we had dim sum - particularly their excellent dim sum - so we were overjoyed.

Afterward, we cruised north into Marin County, and encountered a world of nasty traffic. This was problematic, because we had booked massages at a lovely spa called Osmosis, and were threatening to be very late.

We were very late, but we called them ahead of time to warn of our impending tardiness, and they did their utmost to accommodate us. My massage therapist was extremely skilled, and really worked my shoulders and back, which had been pretty sore of late. We stopped by our favorite bakery in that area (literally across the Bohemian Highway from Osmosis), Wild Flour, and got some chocolate-cranberry-orange scones for my folks, who live about 15 minutes away.

We had a lovely dinner with my parents, and then headed up to Guerneville to hang with our peeps.

The weekend was lovely (thanks again, you guys!), starting with lots of wonderful conversation, a bottle of stunning Zinfandel, and a viewing of R. Kelly's magnum opus Trapped in the Closet. We spent the next day chilling out. We had a fan-fucking-tastic breakfast of sweet rolls, fruit salad and meat, then spent time talking fish, podcasts, literature, music and more. I smoked a cigar with the guys, and then we played in the river. We had another spectacular meal that couldn't be beat, watched the pilot episode of Firefly, and played with kitties.

Our visit closed with the traditional Boho Sympo breakfast at Howard's in Occidental. Afterward, we stopped by my folks' place and picked up a bunch of old family photos for use in a framed collage - we have one of Sce's family, but not one of mine yet - and then booked it south to drop off the rental car and catch our flight. It was an uneventful trip back, and we were happy to return home having spent such a relaxing and hospitable weekend with such good friends.

Sce and I went to see Pearl Jam last Monday night, and they were very good. They played a lot of songs I didn't expect to hear (see the set list here), and they rocked the house. There was no screwing around; they gave us our money's worth.

Oh, and I turned 31 last Monday as well. Grats to me!
