RIP John Lennon

Dec 08, 2005 23:44

Today was the 25th anniversary of the murder of John Lennon. NPR mentioned it, but 94.9 spent all day playing songs John Lennon wrote and played. It was a really nice tribute, considering that Lennon is one of the few people whose music really did change the world.

I was at the gym tonight when that Southwest plane ran off the runway and smashed a couple of cars in Chicago. I was on the elliptical at the time, and grew increasingly sour at CNN for looping the footage of the aftermath for at least half an hour. I was listening to my iPod, so I had no idea what they might have been saying, but it was probably along the lines of "Well, all we know at this time is that a Southwest plane has skidded off the runway, smashed through a fence, and slammed into two cars." CNN's great with the melodramatic verbs.

A kid died in one of the cars, though, which is saddening. I was feeling guilty about being annoyed at CNN until I realized the death and the annoying coverage are exclusive of one another, and I can mock CNN with a clear conscience.

So yes, I went back to the gym again. It's amazing what a motivator feeling like a fat, lazy slob is. I lost two pounds between Tuesday and today as well, which made me happy. My muscles have that achy, lived-in feeling, and I had a great endorphin high all evening.

I'm kinda not wanting to go into the office tomorrow, as I will have to do a hands-on kind of interview for the Developer half of the position they want to transition me into. I'm great at interviewing - my bullshit is really sublime when it needs to be - but I don't know how well my looking up online JSP tutorials will go over when I've got the dev leader peering over my shoulder.

I am so ready for this weekend - I want to practice me drumming!
