2X03 "Mousetrap"

May 02, 2011 21:51

LJ, why so slow tonight?! Time for episode 2.03, "The Mousetrap." I can't imagine why no one else signed up to recap this episode.

Oh wait, yes I can. Buried in the depths of despair: that's me after rewatching. Let's get this over! Keep a stack of kleenex nearby.

Storyline E: Yeah, this isn't really a storyline. I had to include a mention (and pic) of Kacy's giant belly, just because I love it so. Also, John steals cable for the pregnant lady and justifies it to his mom. Heeeee!

Storyline D: Ellison's scraggly beard gives an indication of his mental state; Weaver has his knowledge and reactions completely figured out, and uses that to her advantage.

Weaver's awesome office! I love this conversation. If I had a good transcript, I'd probably quote all of it.

Looks like Ellison has a new boss.

Storyline C: John and Riley. I have to say that Riley is a thousand times more interesting on a rewatch. Not that I disliked her before, but now instead of thinking, "Cute, bold, probably good for John in a general (if not specific) way," I'm wondering what her thoughts are. Her interactions with Cameron are particularly fascinating.

Anyway, Riley is still rather adorable with the magazines. "Cat Fancy," hah!

That is one tacky dress. Trying on prom dresses--was it something suggested by Jesse? Just Riley being impromptu? A real fascination with with this whole weird thing called Prom?

I wonder how safe she feels around Cameron? Does she feel a degree of security because Cameron wouldn't know her, or is she simply unaware at this point that Cameron is one of the machines?

Storylines B and A: Charley and Michelle leave town. It doesn't go so well. *sniffles*

Cromartie brings Michelle to an abandoned building and sets up his convincing "bomb" while Charley does the one thing he can think to do: calls Sarah. (Well, calls John in order to call Sarah.)

Michelle manages to call Charley--just what Cromartie had in mind, I assume. Charley, Sarah and Derek find her, phone calls are made, Cromartie gets the information he wanted...

Cromartie made a real bomb as well. John gets a phone call from "Mom" as the four in the building try and escape.

Michelle insists on walking out. Neither of the medical professionals is thinking very clearly, although I don't think I'd want to wait in that building either. They find a van to jack (hah, probably the guy sent to check on why the cell tower isn't working), but Michelle is fading fast.

Sarah's face! Every second counts, and she knows it, but she still stops the van.

She's right to be worried. John is exactly where Cromartie told him to be.

"I don't swim." Good to know.

By now I'm practicing my "I will not cry" scrunchy faces. The hug nearly does me in, especially since neither John nor Charley wastes words; they would be completely useless.

Michelle's funeral. With unwanted guardian.

A deliberately framed scene for closing: the Reese-Connor family looking prayerful, even while we know Sarah doesn't believe in God.

* * *
Anyone else amazed at how Dennis the subway hero could make your heart break? (Dean Winters has had a lot of comedy roles, so this took me by surprise.)

What does Riley think of Cameron? How scripted are her moments with John?

What does Cameron know about Riley?

Sarah Connor is the "muscle" Charley calls on (and she does it well, like when she jacks the van). John acts as comforter to a grieving Charley. The Connors still have a tie to Charley Dixon, but they don't act according to strictly gender-defined roles. (It's kind of awesome.)

John continues pulling away from Cameron; quite literally, this time.

Cameron had surprisingly little to do during this episode. Almost all the focus was on the Dixon family and Sarah's interactions with them.
