I have the same problem. My surname is so hard to pronounce by English speaking people (we're using the father's name instead of a family name). My dad's name is Md Abdul Azis. The 'Abdul Azis' part is quite easy to pronounce but people don't know how to pronounce Md. It's supposed to be Muhammad but my father told me that the police who was registering my dad's name when he was born didn't really know how to spell. So he ended up being Md Abdul Azis instead of Muhammad Abdul Azis.
Now I'm facing a problem at uni because the tutors can't pronounce my dad's name. While everyone was called by their full name in the first class meeting, I was just called 'Suraya' Gahh
I have 5 words in my full name, but I go by "Jom". I figured I needed a one-syllable nickname so people would do away with the other 11 syllables. :D Writing on forms is such a chore for me too, especially if they need you to shade a corresponding box per letter. ¯\(º_o)/¯ then I'm really in trouble. :D
I didn't know pronouncing it as "Mud" can be an option! I thought it's always Mu/ohammad, take it or leave it. :) Thanks, learnt something new today.
Nah, it's supposed to be pronounced Muhammad but I didn't know that when I was little, so I always went like "my name is Suraya 'Mud' Abdul Azis" :D I don't do that anymore though.

Haha...yeah, I guess it does come in handy when writing my full name.
Is Jom your full name?
I doubt they'll try to pronounce it XD
