So, BSG? Fantastic show, I'm totally getting the squee. It's early in the morning (i.e. 10.45 am), so you get my thoughts in list form:
- Kara might be my biggest fictional character crush right now, and yes, that does include the Winchesters and all the pretty Heroes people. Seriously, she's not just pretty, she is just SO KICKASS. And does stupid things. And is a bit fucked-up. And cute. And she kicks ass, in case I didn't mention it. When she tortured that Cylon guy? Awesome and pretty creepy, because she was so cold about it, she'd be a match for Jack Bauer. Just - I love the mix between her sort of "soft". angsty side (her belief in the gods, her crushing on Lee) and the completely KICKASS soldier. This tomboy thing she has going on, I guess. So awesome. *in love*
- Gaius has really grown on me. He didn't seem very likeable at first, but by now I LOVE him. I don't always get his motives - partly he's just egoistical and trying for personal gain, and partly it's his imaginary Cylon girlfriend (do we ever get to know what exactly she is/how she got into his head?), but I can't explain it all. However, I like that. And I love how much of a dork he can be.
- Both Adamas rock my socks, as does Colonel I-don't-know-how-to-spell-him, as does that mechanic woman (is it Laura? Or am I confusing something?) and the chief mechanic person (I so fail at names. :( ) Oh, and that guy from the bridge who has this total crush on Gaius. I don't know how to spell him, but even his name sounds like "gaydar".
- I'm not too sure about the President and Boomer - I sort of like them, but sort of don't, either.
- Speaking of Boomer, her shooting Adama? Holy crap. That's one thing I didn't see coming. *gnaws nails*
- Speaking of seeing things coming, this is the one complaint I have: Quite a lot of things in this show are rather predictable - I always expect there to be some sort of twist, and it seldom comes. Then again, I'd rather have a bit of predictability than unrealistic twists for the twist's sake.
- That's all I remember right now.
There was also some watching of "My Name Is Earl" and I continue to madly love that show. How it's not very pc and yet always comes out positive; mocking, but not in a mean way, you know? Total feel-good show, more people should watch it.
Next,
spn_fridayfive:
1. How did you first hear about SPN? And when did you start watching?
I had heard some people on my flist mentioning it at some points, but I only really noticed it when
evil_trisha watched it. It went something like this:
nairie (then Trisha's flatmate) and I are at
shivaluna's. The phone rings.
Trisha: "Please please come home now, I watched the SPN pilot and the whole appartment is dark and I'm scared and I'm sure a burning woman will appear on my ceiling every second! Rescue me!!"
Sandra: "Ok, I'm so never going to watch that show."
And then some weeks later we did (that was some time in spring), anyway, and I liked it and then I watched more and became the horrible fangirl that I am now. :">
2. We all have our squee-moments over Jared and Jensen. Post your absolute favourite (one only!) picture of the two.
One?? You're kidding, right? Ok... Maybe
this one (too lazy to resize), because they're both so adorkable.
3. Which character would you least like to wake up next to without being able to remember how you got there?
Uhm. Anybody demon-posessed, I guess? Or Evil Twin from "Simon Said", because that would be creepy.
4. Your favourite brotherly quote so far?
I always fail at remembering quotes. :( Not like I could decide, anyway. I loved that exchange in season one, though, with the "You can do it without me" - "I don't want to."
5. There are a lot of shippers in this fandom, as well as quite a few non-shippers. What is your view on Wincest?
It's never going to be canon, obviously, but I do like me some Wincest. Part of it is the pretty-factor of course, but I could get that just with the RPS. But what really makes this relationship for me is the unique situation they have grown up in: From all we know they've never had anyone but each other (and their dad). Sure, there must have been some sort of schooling, they must have encountered other kids at some points and made some experiences (sexual and otherwise), but in the end it was always just them. I can easily see that turning into something "more", and I love stories that explore their coming to terms with those "wrong" feelings. There's just so much UST in this show - don't know whether it comes from Jared and Jensen's chemistry, the amount of innuendo (via the boys just not getting laid enough), or whatever, but I love it.
As for the incest - I never had a problem with fictional incest. My general belief is that in fiction, anything goes, as long as you're able to distinguish it from reality. (Doesn't mean I don't have my squicks, like crossgen, but I don't mind if anyone else likes them.) I don't even necessarily see a problem with real-life (adult) sibling incest (as opposed to parent/child incest!) - it's not "natural", obviously (then again, what is?), and in many or most cases it will be or border on abuse, but if both parties are consenting/feel good with it: why not? In that case the only problem might be the possible conception of children, and that isn't a factor with same-sex relationships, anyway. (I could write a whole essay on My Thoughts on Incest and Other Non-Conventional Aspects of Sex, and maybe I will one day. ;) )
Lastly, but not least - thank you for the adorable card,
apieceofcake! ♥ Having Jared and Jensen smile at me from my wall rocks. :D And I'll keep that handcare stuff for a special occasion, thanks so much!
As for my own Christmas prep: I've written most cards (not many, but at least I'll be sending out a few), finished my
spn_holidays contribution, almost finished the presents for my family and started on some online gifts. To do: Buy the cloth my mother asked for (she sewing me a skirt or two for Christmas), prepare gifts for RL friends, bake cookies (this afternoon, yay!). I'll be leaving for Bitburg on the 21st and be back in Berlin on the 28th, in time for New Year's with lots of lovely people. \:D/
ETA 1:
There won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time,
The greatest gift they'll get this year is Sandra.
Do They Know It's Christmas
from the
Christmas Song Generator.
ETA 2: Seems LJ is not sending me comment notifications, and if it does, they're really belated. *glares* So if there's something you think I should have replied to, let me know.
