I've heard bad things about this movie beforehand, but I definitely enjoyed it. It has its lenghths and a few completely unnecessary parts, but all in all it was fun and very very pretty.
Thoughts in list-form, because I just got up and fail at coherency anyway:
- Let's start with the bad: The whole plotline of Jack and that cannibal tribe irked me, it just seemed like they tried too hard to be funny and bring some action, which destroyed the mood for me.
- Actually, the whole plot made me go "whatever" - but this film is not about the plot, anyway, so I didn't mind. Like part one, it's all about the fun characters - Jack Sparrow, obviously, but I also love his crew and Davy Jones and Elizabeth and Norrington and Will.
- Let me just emphasize it: scruffy!Norrington. GUH.
- The barely-veiled Jack/Will/Elizabeth (or any combination thereof), Jack/Norrington and Will/Norrington filled my little shipper heart with joy.
- It was quite dark in parts, both visual- and acting-wise, which I enjoyed.
- The score continues to be veeery pretty.
- I know I'm a perv, but Will being flogged? Kinda sorta hot. I may have a thing for pretty boys being hurt. *cough*
- Did I mention the visuals? The sets, make-up and special effects are really cool, especially on Davy Jones and his crew. The others found his tentactles icky, but I thought they were awesome.
- Crossdressing!Elizabeth. So pretty.
In conclusion: As long as you don't expect anything new or intellectual, but are content with a lot of pretty and some cool action, it's a really fun and entertaining movie. Go see it. *nods*
Unrelated, I posted a Jonathan Rhys-Meyers wallpaper and a few Supernatural icons from the Batch That's Been Eating My Brain (and might never get finished)
at my icon journal. :)
Now to see if my computer will let me continue with "24". It'd better!
ETA: And apparently it's
gamiila's birthday! *throws confetti* Sending you lots of good wishes!! ♥
