Thank you to everyone who helped in my last post! I now have lots of notes for my exchange story. Your ideas and theories have helped immensely and gave me even more plot ideas to play with. As a result, I think the story will take a slightly different -- but I hope much better -- direction than I'd originally intended. ~smooches my flist~
I briefly ran into another quandry, but finally decided to just close my eyes and stick my fingers in my ears. (
mctabby recently had an
interesting post on this very same issue.) Remember this JKR quote from 2000 (just prior to the release of GoF) : "Dumbledore is a hundred and fifty, and Professor McGonagall is a sprightly seventy. Wizards have a much longer life expectancy than Muggles"? Well, she put paid to that by setting Dumbledore's age at 115
on her website. WTF? 1881 - 1996?
Considering that JKR has always had problems with math and timelines, and considering that placing Dumbledore's death in 1996 would require that he died during OotP or during the first part of HBP rather than at the end, I've decided that my previous decision to ignore her interviews will be set aside in this instance. I prefer to think that Dumbledore was 150 during GoF, thank you very much. I like the idea of wizards having longer lifespans than Muggles. I think that fits in very well with the magical world that she created, and since I'm never going to be completely canon compliant in a HG/SS fanfic, I'm not going to worry about it any longer. Pfffftttttt. ;)
And in other news, I received an email reply from "Stephanie" of
Whispers infamy. A promise to remove my profile and stories from the archive was made, and it seems that's exactly what's happened. Searching by my name and titles of fics shows nothing of mine there. Perhaps progress is being made on that front.
ETA: I was mistaken. My profile is still there, but the stories are gone. So still progress, even though it's somewhat less progress than I had wanted.
