The howls of laughter drifted up from the riverside where Hikaru and Takaki were still playing tag with Yabu.
Inoo trudged slowly back up the hill with the washed Tupperware boxes, looking slightly annoyed.
“Sometimes,” he huffed, flopping down on the cool grass of the hilltop, “I wish those three would act more their age! I thought it was kind of obvious that I was trying to wash up! And what do they do? Attempt to push me into the river. Some kind of gratitude that is.”
Daiki laughed.
“Let them enjoy their fun while they can. A free day is a rarity for us, after all.”
“At least they get to feel free,” grumbled Inoo, “I still have to worry about my university exams even on my free day!”
Inoo sighed, staring up at the night sky.
“I envy the stars,” he murmured, “so free in the sky. I wish I was a star.”
“But you are,” Daiki interjected, “except you’re not a star in the sky, you’re a star on stage.”
Inoo smiled.
“I guess.”
They sat in silence for a while, back-to-back on the grassy hilltop, gazing at the sky.
“Look!” cried Daiki suddenly, “a shooting star!”
He closed his eyes and made a wish quickly, before opening his eyes to smile at Inoo.
“What did you wish for?”
Inoo didn’t reply, his eyes following the speck of light streaking across the black velvet sky.
“Dai-chan,” he said after a lengthy pause, “I don’t think that was a shooting star.”
“What?”
“…I think it was an airplane.”
“Say what?!”
