“Inoo! Stop being such a bum,” Hikaru whined, plopping down next to Inoo on the beach towel.
Inoo sighed, and turned a page of his book.
“We’ve gone through this already, Hikaru. I can’t surf, I’m not going to surf. I’m just going to stay in the shade and eat cookies and read my book.”
“You’ll get fat!”
Groaning, Inoo halfheartedly whacked Hikaru with his book.
“I look ridiculous enough without having to ride on a surfboard, really.”
Hikaru stayed silent for a while.
“How about we make sandcastles then?”
“Eh? But why?”
“Come on! You can practice your architecture skills and everything!”
Laughing, Inoo slowly put down his book.
“Fine, fine. Let’s get started.”
“Yay~!”

An hour and a half of hard work later, Inoo placed a tiny flag made out of a twig and a leaf on top of the tallest turret of their castle.
“It’s amazing!” Hikaru laughed.
“It’s our castle! We’re like, royalty now! We have a whole kingdom of sand!”
Hikaru grinned.
“I’ll be the prince and you’ll be the princess~” he sang suddenly in bad English, and Inoo shrieked in mock rage.
“I know enough English to understand that! I’m not a girl!”
Grabbing the pink plastic bucket next to him, he stood up and jammed it on top of Hikaru’s head, causing the other boy to shriek and stumble backwards.
“Inoo-chan, help!”
“Your voice sounds funny from inside the bucket,” Inoo laughed.
“It’s not funny!”
Hikaru stumbled around some more, when suddenly, in his blind staggering, he tripped over a rock embedded in the sand and fell backwards. Inoo, who had been holding on to the bucket, fell as well, landing awkwardly on top of Hikaru.
The bucket slid off Hikaru’s head then, and he blinked several times before noticing their compromising position.
“Inoo! Get off!”
Inoo gave a guilty start, and immediately flopped over to lie next to Hikaru on the sand.
“That was fun.”
“Geez,” Inoo sighed, “now I have sand in my shoes and in my hair and under my nails.”
“It’s worth it, isn’t it?” laughed Hikaru, and patted Inoo’s fluffy hair.
Inoo watched as a seagull flew across the clear blue sky.
“Yeah,” he smiled, “I guess it was.”

They were startled from their reverie ten minutes later when a horrified shriek from Yamada as well as yelling from Chinen informed them that their castle had been destroyed by an incoming beach ball (courtesy of Takaki).
