Gah, what can I even say? I adored it all... every single conversation, every single exchange. Le sigh.
I don't even know where to begin with NH. It's just, it's about their journey both together and apart, man (and ugh, damn Mark for ruining that word for me, but! 'Tis true in this case). I loved that Lucas said what he did about Haley. Like, sure, she's grown up a bit, had to learn a few crushing lessons but you haven't corrupted her, and neither has anyone else. She's still Haley, she's just grown a bit. So, I just loved that detail a lot, because I think it's important to show and comment on Haley's growth in this, as well as Nathan's. Nathan's is much more obvious being he was so completely opposite of who he is now, but Haley's changed, too. I just... yeah, I loved that.
I also really, really loved the subtle, little touches and kisses on Nathan's part, and the fact that while it unnerved Haley a bit, she obviously didn't feel strongly enough about it to call him on it or pull away from him. Mostly, I think it's so clear that she wants him, wants his touch and everything else, but is still just a little too scared to have it. It's a HUGE leap for her, given what happened, but I have a feeling that hearing about everything from Nathan firsthand, not from Brooke, Tim, or whoever else, will ultimately give her the courage to give herself to him again, to allow him fully back into her heart. Which, seems a bit ironic, to me, given that what he will say surely won't be easy to hear, but at the same time... I think it will set them both free, to a degree, from their past and allow them to move forward.
The Nathan/Dan confrontation was so upsetting. You expect nothing more from him, but still can't really believe what is coming out of his mouth. That man truly has no problem emotionally blackmailing, tearing down, physically harming, whatever his own child and that exchange made it that much more clear that Nathan does not belong with him. He's better than him, and the life that comes with being under Dan's control. I was so proud of Nathan there, I really was... and I loved, loved seeing him open up to Luke about it. Their awkward hug and Nathan's compliment about Luke and writing just melted my heart.
Oh, fic, how I heart you. (And you, too, Brynne! That's just a given, though, right? Hee!)
Even when they were apart, it was still about them together. Because no matter how they (especially Haley) wanted to make like they were moving on or whatever, it was still all about the other person. She was angry, but she never let go of him even for a second. And now, maybe, just maybe, she is ready to let go of some of that anger and start to heal and move on.
Yeah, that was just about right from Dan, huh? It's like, you just know that if they'd been alone, it would've been a thousand times worse, but what Dan gave was still utterly awful. For Nathan to finally learn to brush that off will be a huge thing for him. Well, maybe never brush it off exactly, but to catalogue it for what it is and not let it affect everything he does.

Hee, thank you! It should definitely be a given!
