EEKS. Oh, how I love. I seriously dread each end of the chapter because I'm so wrapped up in their lives here and every.single.word exchanged between them. Le sigh.
I love, love, love being inside Haley's head in this. She just makes me giggle at and with her, seriously. She's just laughs. And I love how amused Nathan always seems to be by her, even though he chooses to not embarrass her further (for the most part, ha) by calling her out.
Then, of course, his confession and subsequent breakdown just about killed me. Nathan is not the perfect person, and he often makes mistakes and continues to do so without learning from said mistakes (though he seems like such a different person in present time, so that is most definitely something, and counts for a lot), but no one deserves to be accused of what he was. How painful, and scarring, especially when it comes to the people you expect to know immediately that you could and would ever. So very sad.
It's crazy... just how well you switch gears in your writing without ever missing a beat. It's just awesome, and it's such a necessary thing, because you can read a chapter and feel broken for Nathan but not totally weighed down with the heaviness because there was cuteness and a few light moments in the mix as well... and like I always feel I tell you in my FB, that is so realistic and how real life is, you know? At least in my experiences, especially being I tend to use humor/sarcasm to hide or deal with my pain. Haley seems to be that way as well, and with Nathan it's more of a flirtation. That's just his default setting, especially with Haley, and the time when he is most comfortable.
I'm pretty sure I'm just rambling now, but! I always really, really try to convey (and surely fail quite a bit) what I adore and connect with most within the chapters and about your stuff, in general, because I enjoy it so much. Thanks, Brynne! I seriously can't wait for more.
I'm glad you're enjoying Haley's headspace. I find that I usually do, too. And I think Nathan does, too. So, we're all agreed then! Go Haley's crazy head!
No, Nathan is about as far from perfect as everyone is, and he makes more than his fair share of mistakes. It's sort of too bad, ironic almost, that the one mistake that wasn't any fault of his own is the one that cost him the most, you know? And he's definitely different now; grown up a lot!
Thank you! It's nice to have you notice my attempts at levity. Even though it is obviously still incredibly hard for Nathan to talk about, he has probably moved past it enough that he can cry over it one moment and laugh about something ridiculous the next. Maybe that lends a bit to the comfort levels that still exist between them in some weird, twisted way.
No, no, thank YOU! :) I'll be working on this one again soon, once TL is finished. Which it either is or damn near is. Heh. We shall see!
