reverse racism

So I'm sitting here bored and I decide to take my ring out and smell it...who knows why. I can't figure out why it smells so awful all the time, I mouthwash all the time. I'm weird, I know.

I went to the Reggea Hut today, it's a Jamaican cafe here in the third ward. Needless to say given the location and the menu aram and I were the only caucasian patrons. It was reverse racism in full bloom. I just kept thinking, if my step-dad was here they'd be here in a heartbeat to ask what we need, but instead we waited as the waitress looked at us, went into the back room, came back, cleaned off the table next to us, went back, and eventually she decided to bring us the menus. The whole meal was like that and while the guys next to us got their drinks moments after ordering them, it wasn't until halfway through our meal we got ours. It was ridicoulous.
I had a conversation earlier in the week with a co-worker about how she wouldn't go to an all white establishment alone, and I understood how she felt I go shopping at h-e-b down the street or even in the drive-thru at frenchy's I get the attitude. But you could cut the tension in that room with a knife. The way everyone was looking at us, "You poor dumb white kids, what do you know about carribean food? You don't belong here".
I'm going back though, and I'm going to keep going. It's hard as hell to find patties in houston and my dad isn't here enough to make curry or jerk. So I'll keep going until they get used to my face and stop judging me I guess. I do have to admit, the waitress seemed a little shocked when I ordered what I wanted without glancing at the menu, it was almost the same look the man in Negril gave me when I told him he shouldn't talk to dirty in front of me because I know Jamaican. I'm excited to tell my dad that I found a place though, it will be interesting to see what he thinks of it.
