As some of you saw on my Facebook update last night, I had GREAT luck at bingo, winning 3 giftcards plus the blackout pot! more on that in a moment. Because I'm the only May baby in the group, I was the only person who got to play w/ a bonus card (we each play w/ 2 cards unless it's our B-Day month). So my likelihood of winning was slightly increased, but I didn't think I'd have THIS much good luck, especially since for most of the game, I didn't have good luck at all! heh
I ended up winning giftcards to
Subway (one of my fave semi-fast food places), iTunes (neither Shawn nor I have Apple devices but thankfully that doesn't matter! heh) and
Powell's Sweet Shoppe. I also ended up winning the blackout (last game of the night) money pot of $14! I actually hoped I would NOT win blackout, seeing as I'd already won three giftcards. *blush* I wanted someone who had nothing to win blackout. But it happened to me anyway!
The Powell's giftcard was something I bought yesterday when I went to the Los Gatos location because I had an email coupon for a free birthday gelato. I got half cafe mocha (chocolate/coffee) and half birthday cake flavor. Yes, that's right, I'm STILL using up my slew of freebies from May being my birthday month! :D For a full list of all the companies that sent me B-Day freebies, check
my prior blog entry. (It includes Denny's, IHOP, Dairy Queen, Baskin Robbins and Cost Plus World Market!) Anyhoo, while at Powell's I thought I'd get a giftcard as my bingo gift, since no one in the group ever gave a card from there before. It ended up getting stolen several times at bingo but I was the lucky holder of it when we played our last game! You know the phrase "like a kid in a candy shop"? Well, that's JUST what Powell's makes you feel like! ;) You can find sweet treasures there that you'd never find elsewhere! Most are made by other companies but some are made fresh by Powell's. And in the back they have the 1970s Willy Wonka & Chocolate Factory playing in an endless loop! Speaking of that movie, am I the only person who MUCH preferred the original version over the Charlie & the Chocolate Factory movie that came out in 2005? I actually wrote a review on Amazon.com about all the ways in which the former and latter differed, and all the reasons I preferred the former. It's one of the better Amazon review's I've written, if I do say so myself. *blush* You can visit
this page of all my reviews and scroll down to "Where's the lickable wallpaper?" (If that doesn't pique your curiosity, I don't know what will! *giggle*)
OK, enough of all that giddiness about bingo, sweet treat and movies, and onward to giddiness about awesome MUSIC! ;D When I was driving from Jenny's (in San Jose) back home here to Redwood City, one of my fave local radio stations,
98.1 KISS-FM, The Bay's Old School, was playing it's all 1980s music Friday night, and I heard several songs that have very catchy, singable melodies and lyrics! They all also happen to be what most folks consider "one-hit wonders." They included "They Don't Know 'Bout Us" (Tracey Ullman), "Let the Music Play" (Shannon" and "The Promise" (When in Rome). Another station was also playing a lot of 80s tunes, including one of my fave songs by Yes, "Owner of a Lonely Heart."
OH!! And before I forget! In the mail at my mom's yesterday, I finally received my personalized
Starbucks Gold Rewards membership card -- I wondered when that would arrive! I also received a $25 Facebook gamecard in the mail, which I redeemed through
National Consumer Panel (NCP Online), of which I've been a member since forever! I(I'll probably use the Facebook credits toward FarmVille in-game purchases! *blush*) I've accumulated a huge amount of points from NCP Online because it used to be they didn't have anything good to cash the points out for. :( But in the last year or so they started including some prizes that I actually liked and wanted, including some giftcards and gamecards).
And that's enough glee to share for one day! LOL
