New Year's Eve = Bah Humbug!!

Dec 29, 2007 21:55

I feel like the little mousie in my icon tonight.

It's holidays like New Year's Eve that really bring the difference between the "haves" and the "have nots" into sharp focus -- too sharp. :( Some lucky people will be ringing in 2008 with a special someone, and others won't be. Some of us don't have a significant other; some of us aren't quite sure if we have an S.O.; some of us have an S.O. or a husband/wife but he/she is away right now (including overseas military); some of us are separated; some are divorced; some might even be widows or widowers.

The bottom line is: there are a LOT of disenchanted, disappointed and/or depressed people on New Year's Eve, who will be ringing in 2008 either with our parents and/or siblings (which isn't bad but isn't exactly great either) or with no one at all. Well, there's a slight chance I might get together with a few of my female friends (not that I have many single ones left anymore *sigh*), but I'm not holding my breath on anything coming together in such short order. Plus there's also the fact that folks often get sick this time of year, and hence are unavailable to get together. So anyway, I guess my point is that I'd like to say "Bah Humbug!" to the whole overly COMMERCIALIZED, overly ROMANTICIZED New Year's Eve thing, and just go from Dec. 30 the Jan. 1 and leave the eve of the 31st out of it! :( :[

That being said, if anyone local is reading this and would like to get together at someone's house to play party board games/card games on New Year's Eve, let me know! (I have ton o' games!) I actually do already have one friend interested in this, but two people do not a party make. *wry chuckle*
