Down in the dumps

Jan 24, 2006 15:43

I work in a dump. When I say this I am not being in the least bit metaphorical. I actually work in Bromley municipal dump. I spend my days weighing lorries full of rubbish.  I am constantly surrounded by rotting garbage and my only respite is playing Kingdom of Loathing.

I work with unashamed racist, sexist homophobes who regularly feel the need to inform me of their opinions and seem to take offense when I point out the gaping holes in their logic. Working here brings out the worst in me.  I realise that I am not entirely immune to prejudice.  I am completely intolerant to ill informed Daily Mail reading scum who think it is acceptable to broadcast their race hate at me.

I have also realised that I have been corrupted to accept the prejudice against gypsies and chavs.  I realise that it is now commonly acceptable to be prejudice against at least one of these groups, and whilst my idealistically socialist head revolts against the idea of my prejudice, my more pragmatic side seems to have rolled over waved a little white flag and said 'Yes I agree, I cannot accept unacceptable behavior so I shall tar all member of these communities with the same brush and assume that all sorts of lovely innocent people are as bad as the worst of their kind'.  It's as bad as assuming all Americans are like George Bush or all Londoners are like a cross between The Kray twins and Chas n'Dave.

As you can see I am a bit confused today.

On the bright side I have finally got on the internet at home and currently view Life as anything that happens in between sessions of WoW.
