Make-up!

Jun 12, 2011 09:48

So, I've totally been into make-up for the past six months to almost a year. It started with MAC's Venomous Villains collection, which is the first time I actually splurged on make-up items. I still have all the packaging... Anyways, I keep on buying stuff, so I figured I would start posting about that and see if I can be better about keeping a blog. Hee!

Okay, first things first. I thought I'd do a post about my daily skin care regimen with some swatches.

This is what I use on a daily basis.

From left to right: La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 50 sunscreen, Avene skin recovery cream, Avene extremely gentle cleanser, Avene Cold Cream, La Roche-Posay Lipikar.

I have rididculously dry and sensitive skin. Or, to be more correct, I have had ridiculously sensitive skin throughout my life, especially my adolescence, and have since then only used pharmaceutical brands such as La Roche-Posay, Avene, Vichy, etc because I'm too much of a wimp to go back to the normal ones. They're a little bit pricier than the staple drugstore Neutrogena and Nivea, but not by much. I would never, for one, consider splurging on skincare from make-up companies such as Estee Lauder, Clinique, etc. I have had really bad experiences with them and would rather stick to companies I know make it their business to be all about skin.

Routine: face

Avene extremely gentle cleanser (£8.00 for 200 mL): I put some of this on a cotton pad and wipe my face gently. You don't need to rinse it: sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, depending on if my skin is reactive (I tend not to when I'm having allergies or itchiness). It's has a slightly gel-like texture without being a gel: it's thick and liquidy and dries very gently when you don't rinse it off. It sounds like a bad idea but it is a very gentle and comfortable texture.

Avene Lotion Micellaire: smoothed on on the left, dabbed on on the right.

Avene skin recovery cream (£12.50 for 40 mL): this is my daily moisturiser. I squeeze a generous dollop of that and massage it into my face and down my neck. It melts into the skin and doesn't need a lot of working in. It's amazing.

Avene skin recovery cream: dabbed on on the left, smoothed in on the right.

Avene Cold Cream (£? for 100mL): this is a bitch to massage in, and it works best on very small areas. I usually use it on very very dry skin, for example the eczema on the inside my elbow or usually my chin, which is one of the driest areas on my face. If I don't, the daily moisturiser doesn't cut it and whatever I put on my face (tinted moisturiser, foundation) will become flaky seven hours in. The thing to do is to work a very small amount of it into the skin first until it has sunk in, then add more if needed. It doesn't take long (around 10 to 20 seconds) so it's definitely a good product.

Avene Cold Cream: dabbed on on the left, swiped on the right.

Anthelios SPF sunscreen (£13.28 for 50 mL): I squeeze out as much susncreen as I do moisturiser and go over my face and neck again. This one has a slightly whitish/yellowish sheen so it must be worked into the skin until the whiteness goes. It doesn't take more than 10 seconds, though, and it doesn't leave white traces. It has a little bit of that sunscreen scent, but it isn't overpowering and fades quite quickly.

La Roche Posay Anthelios susncreen SPF 50.

So, as you've no doubt gathered, my skin is dry -.- Even with the moisturiser, the susncreen and some extra cold cream depending on the weather and the state of my skin, I'm not really shiny after application.

Routine: body
I'm really lazy about putting cream on my body, even though I know I shouldn't. I'm less sensitive on my body so I can get away with trying different things. I usually stick with baby oil applied in the shower, but... that's not really great, to be honest. When I guilt myself into caring for the skin on my body, I go with Lipikar. The texture is a little greasy but melts quickly into the skin without it needing too much working in. I put it on at night after I shower, so it has time to sink in and not grease up my clothes. It definitely lasts a full 24 hours.

La Roche-Posay Lipikar body balm: smoothed in on the left, dabbed on the right.

Lipikar is £13.28 for 200mL.

All prices are given from the Boots website.
