A Tale From Austin:
...I can only hope that these classes are not attendance-based, so I can go sit in the library and try to teach myself something new or that the classes have lots of people in them, so that I might be able to fall asleep and try to forget about this horrible monster that controls me and millions of others. This monster who eats your money and your time and forces you to endure boring lectures and makes you write long papers. This monster who repeats things to you over and over again, things you already knew like how to "copy and paste" or what the president does. This monster who, on occasion, teaches you something new, but new things you could have just as easily taught yourself. But all must listen to what the monster says, because the monster has a treasure chest in his cave. And in that treasure chest are the magical little items we call credits. And when you are nice to the monster and the monster is pleased with your obedience, he will toss you some of these credits. Only when you have collected enough credits, 2 or 4 or sometimes even 10 years worth, can you go forth into the wondrous world of employment. I envy you, Steph, because you are almost out of the grips of the awful monster. In another year or so you will have escaped the clutches of the monster. But woe is me, for I have another 3.5 years of slavery left before I am free of the grotesque monster. This monster who will steal 4 years of my life. This monster who shows no remorse. This monster called: College.
This was in an email Austin sent to me last week. I am so amused I feel the need to share this story with everyone.
