[NAME:] Matt Engarde

[AGE:] 23

[GENDER:] Male

[STATUS:] Incarcerated

[SEXUALITY:] Straight

[FRIENDS:] None (except for his cat, Shoe)

[ENEMIES:] Juan Corrida (deceased) and Shelly de Killer would be the two big ones.

[OCCUPATION:] Former action star

[HOBBIES:] Matt enjoys motorcycle racing as well as a variety of sports. He would also consider humiliating/hurting Juan a hobby.

[LIKES:] Matt likes all sorts of gadgets, motorcycles, racing, sports (which include football, soccer, tennis, fencing, and judo), women, and wine.

[DISLIKES:] Bad publicity or anything related to Juan Corrida.

[STRENGTHS:] With his kind deposition and good looks, Matt can charm nearly anyone into liking him. He can be very cunning as well, always trying to find out new ways to use people to get what he wants. He also is very physically fit.

[WEAKNESSES:] Matt’s downfall was his inability to trust anyone. He is very paranoid when it comes to his career, doing anything he can to keep his reputation from being tarnished.

[APPEARANCE:] Standing at 5’ 11” with his ‘silky’ hair falling over his right eye, Matt Engarde describes himself as a ‘handsome devil’. Usually dressed in his favorite red and white racing jacket, his sweet smiles melt hearts everywhere. However, it is only upon brushing the hair away from his face that the ‘real’ Matt Engarde is revealed. The dark scars running across his right eye fit well with the mocking smile that appears with them.

[PERSONALITY:] Matt has two sides. The side he shows off more often would be his charming, naïve side. This side of Matt is the one that everyone knows about. He seems to be entirely clueless about most of the things going on around him, depending solely on his manager. This Matt also uses the word ‘dude’ a lot.

The other side of Matt is different. He becomes very manipulative; using anyone he can to help him. He cares nothing about other people and sees them only as pawns for him to play with.

[BACKGROUND:] Matt started his acting career young. His first manager was Celeste Inpax and after working together for a while, the two fell in love. However, after Matt began to gain more popularity, he dumped Celeste without reason. Still caring for him, Celeste left her job Global Studios so his reputation would remain spotless.

After being cast as The Nickel Samurai, Matt’s spot in the limelight was set. He rose quickly to the top of all popularity polls, the only other person even coming close to him being Juan Corrida. Juan and Matt developed a fierce rivalry, using their own shows against each other (Juan being on a rival kid’s show airing at the same time).

Matt soon found out that Juan’s new manager was Celeste Inpax and the two were now engaged. Wanting nothing more than to crush Juan completely, Matt revealed to Juan the details of his relationship with Celeste. Juan immediately broke off the engagement. Feeling used, Celeste hung herself three days after her initial engagement was announced. She left no suicide note, though Juan forged one by her to use against Matt in the future.

Two years later, Matt is still just one step ahead of him, so Juan teams up with Matt’s new manager, Adrian Andrews, to finally use the forged suicide note. There is a big award ceremony, The Hero of Heroes, and Juan decides that if he loses to Matt there, he will take him down with him. However, upon hearing of the secret meetings between his manager and his rival, Matt becomes suspicious and placed cameras in Juan’s house so he could watch the man’s every move. Spying on Juan was how Matt learned of the fake conference Juan was going to hold as the Nickel Samurai to ruin Matt’s beautiful public imagine.

Not wanting to do anything that could ruin his career, Matt hired an assassin, Shelly de Killer, to do the dirty work for him. De Killer strangled Juan just before the conference was supposed to take place and also took the forged note he was going to use. Matt is immediately suspected and arrested. Wanting to help his client at all costs, de Killer kidnaps Maya Fey and says he will only return her to Phoenix Wright if he can get Matt a full acquittal in court.

With Phoenix Wright defending him and de Killer holding Maya hostage, Matt felt that there was no way he could be found guilty. However, Phoenix discovers the camera hidden in Juan’s hotel room and uses it against him. Phoenix tells de Killer in court (when he appears as a witness to help clear Matt’s name) that Matt didn’t trust him at all and was going to use a videotape of the murder to blackmail the assassin. This breaks the contract between actor and assassin, so de Killer releases Maya and states that Matt Engarde shall be his next victim. No matter what sentence Phoenix chooses for his client, Matt ends up in jail, happier to be there then dead.

[WHAT HE IS UP TO NOW]:After being exposed, there is no reason for Matt to keep up his charade. He would ditch his ‘refreshing’ side altogether while in prison, only bringing it back up jokingly. Matt would not get along very well with the other inmates at first, but after realizing that he will be there for a long time, would attempt to make some ‘friends’ at least to keep him from getting bored.

He would spend his time working out or socializing with people. Matt would spend a great deal of time keeping an eye out for anything news or tabloid related- he would want to be informed as to what was going on outside of the prison. If Matt were to receive fan mail (I’m sure some crazy people would send some), he would brag and gloat about it to anyone who would listen. He doesn’t want anyone to forget how important he is (or was).
