[Earthquake] Phoenix Wright SUCKS

Jul 31, 2008 10:43

((This scene takes place on Monday after Matt has been returned to prison. There is one more scene that goes between this one and the last Matt/Welly casino scene and it should be up reeeal soon.))

Wright: *it's late Monday afternoon when Phoenix checks in to Bloodspill Maximum Security Prison, two weeks after the earthquake and the break out. He goes through the requisite security checks (his hat, for some reason, is passed by yet again) before he's escorted to the inner parts of the penitentiary. Once he's there, he makes a request to visit a certain inmate at his cell, but his request is summarily declined; apparently, the building is tightening up on security procedures and protocol. Undeterred, Phoenix makes a few requests of a guard and the woman nods before heading off. Another guard, a male, conducts Phoenix to the visitation room where he casually takes a seat and waits for the convict to arrive*

Matt: *doesn't even bother to ask who it is coming to visit him when the guard gives him a hard shove into the room. Glancing over his shoulder at the man, he straightens up once he is out of their grip. He hates being shoved around. After the breakout, even Matt could tell the guards had stopped slacking off. It didn't matter to the actor as he took a step forward to see who was visiting him... He had his Shoe. What could possibly bring him down?*

Matt: *moving towards the glass, his visible eye narrows for the briefest moment of a second before he grins wide at Phoenix* Mr. Lawyer dude! What brings you here? Need an autograph or something?

Wright: Nah. *he's leaning back in his chair, a lazy grin on his face appearing once he sees Matt--despite how much the sight of the man disgusts and angers him, none of that shows on his features or his voice-the latter of which approaches a slow drawl* I don't know anyone who'd want it. I'm sure you've heard the news circling about: "attempted murder and sexual battery" ... hardly refreshing, wouldn't you say?

Matt: *the former actor takes his seat next to the glass, still smiling even though he knows full well who Phoenix is speaking about* Huh? Dude, that doesn't sound good at all. *a slightly puzzled expression takes over his face* Who was it? That big tiger-like guy? Or was it that creepy old dude with the cane?

Wright: A ha ha. Considering your victim is still quite alive and capable to testify, playing dumb isn't going to work. *leans forward now, resting his elbow on the desk and his chin on his hand* You're not getting out now till you qualify for receiving social security, you know--not that you're paying into them right now... or that you'd really ever want out, huh...?

Matt: .... *his expression turns completely blank as he gazes off to the side, in an attempt to ignore Phoenix mostly. Adrian was too much of a coward to testify on her own. She always had been* ... *though now she had 'friends', didn't she? No doubt they would have some large amount of influence on her. She was so easy to manipulate* What are you here for, Wright?

Wright: *his expression is still one of amusement, and he speaks with a vague, thoughtful quality* I didn't imagine you'd have the gall to do something like that yourself, you know. Always so worried about getting your hands sullied... *a sharp tone enters his voice* Adrian's a friend of mine, Engarde. What do you think I'm here for?

Matt: *a smirk cuts across his face as he leans in towards the other man* What? Revenge? *a gloved hand reaches out and taps lightly on the glass separating them* Sorry, dude, but you aren't getting anything out of me. She can try to send her little friends after me, but I'm completely safe. If whatshisface can't get in here, neither can you.

Wright: *laughs-- a great big merry guffaw*

Wright: *leans forward further, conspiratorially* You're not too bright, Engarde. You... have noticed that the security around here has changed, right? New rules, new faces...? A complete overhaul.

Matt: Yeah... *he wants to straighten up so he is further away from Phoenix, but the last thing he wants to look like is a coward* I'm not an idiot like most of the people you deal with. Of course I noticed.

Wright: *shakes his head condescendingly* I don't know how you missed him, then. Tall, thin guy-- stitches across the middle of his face...? *the frightening thing is how earnest he looks when he says this* He was working the metal detectors when I came in here.

Wright: *grins* I guess he hasn't had the chance to say hello yet. You just came back, after all...

Matt: *stiffening, Matt's eyes widen as his hands curl up tightly into fists. No. No. No. There is absolutely no way that can be true. Yet as much as he continues to assure himself it is false, his voice is unusually strained when he speaks. He continues to stare wide-eyed at Phoenix* You're an awful liar...

Wright: A ha ha. *catches all of the actor's nervous ticks, of course-- and he speaks with the comfortable air of a person fully secure in his assertions* I really am--which is how you can tell I'm telling the truth, right? Take it as a... friendly advance warning.

Wright: *his tone turns playful again* That's not what I'm here for, though-- and it's not for revenge, either. I'd never lay a hand on you... I'm sure you can read me better than that.

Matt: *his expression and tone of voice do not change.* Then what are you here for?

Wright: *smiles* Pet collection.

Matt: .............................. What?

Wright: *glances off vacantly, as if entirely unconcerned* You took something from Ms. Andrews, that night you broke into her apartment. A cat, orange and white stripes, goes by the name of Shoe? Her pet. I'm here to fetch it back.

Matt: *all thoughts of the assassin flee from his mind as Matt shoots Phoenix a glare* MY PET. He is mine.

Wright: *taps the glass between them with a finger* Nah ah-- inmate, remember? You don't get that privilege. *smirks*

Matt: *snarls at the other man, his visible eye narrowing as his glare intensifies* You can't take him away.

Wright: Oh, it's already been done. *glances back towards the door; the female guard he'd talked to earlier is standing there, visible from behind the glass. Phoenix waves at her and she walks in, Shoe carefully held in her gloved hands. She transfers him to Phoenix's hands*

Matt: NO! *in one swift movement he is up, chair knocked backwards as he launches himself at the glass between the two men* YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME! YOU CAN'T!

Officer: *a little skeptically, ignoring Matt's outburst* Do you have a carrying kennel for him, Mr. Wright?

Wright: *shakes his head, also ignoring Engarde for now* I'll be alright just holding him-- he's pretty good-tempered.

Officer: All right. *gives a wary glance towards the glass and then walks off, exiting the room and leaving Phoenix there with Shoe*

Matt: *turns his rage to the officer leaving the room* You can't do that, you fucking idiot!! That is MY cat! He's my property! ...DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON ME!

Wright: *the door slams shut, and Phoenix raises a wary eyebrow* Careful, Engarde. Act out a little bit more and I don't know how much longer you'll get to be with him, person to cat. *lifts Shoe up so Matt can get a better view; he's scratching the cat behind his ears*

Matt: *caught up between pure rage and that soft feeling he only knows when Shoe is around, Matt's voice fails. He stares at Shoe. He stares at Phoenix. He continues to stare forward, uncertain at what to do* ...

Wright: *offhandedly* You know, I've heard about cats living over twenty years... never heard them lasting forty, though. *stands and boosts Shoe up, holding the cat up to the glass and speaking to him in that sing-song way people speak to pets* Say goodbye to the bad man, Shoe. *helps the cat wave his front paw* Bye-bye!

Matt: *his voice is soft as he reaches towards the glass to Shoe's little paw.* Shoe! Papa will come and get you again! I won't forget about you. Ever!

Wright: *the amusement drains out of his voice as he pulls the cat back; his features are serious, and there's that hardened glare from back in the days when he still had a badge, back when he'd been standing in the courtroom* You won't have another chance.

Wright: You'll never get out before he dies-- you'll never find out where Ms. Andrews is staying-- and even if you do, I'll be coming right back again to fetch him. *steps aside and pushes in his chair with a toe, turning to the door so that the cat in his arms is hidden from view*

Wright: *turns his own head back to look at the actor, though-- and there's a smile there that is distinctly not from his lawyering days* ...I guess this is a kind of revenge, isn't it?

Matt: *once Shoe escapes his view the rage is back again. Lowering his voice, he presses up against the glass, his shoulders shaking* I don't care about her. I am going to kill you next, Phoenix Wright.

Wright: A ha ha ha. *heads over to the door, the guard stationed across the hall from it moving to open it up for him* Get in line.

Matt: *pounds on the glass* I'll kill that little girl of yours!

Wright: *stops, his hands tightening around Shoe--who gives out a very distinct mew. His voice is level again, and cheerful* Come now, not while I'm holding your cat~!

Matt: *he barely manages to squeak anything out, the color instantly draining from his face* No!! D-don't hurt, Shoe... Please...

Wright: *chuckles* That's better. Have a good day now, Engarde. I'll see you in forty, fifty years... if you make it out. *adjusts the cat in his arms, then heads out the door*

Matt: Don't... You can't do this... No....

Wright: *shuts the door behind him, waving casually through the window before he strolls off*

Matt: *is completely silent for a moment before everything that just happened catches up with him. Shoe was gone. He was never seeing his cat again. Just as a sudden wave of depression hits the man, an overwhelming sense of rage rushes over him at the thought of Phoenix Wright hurting his cat. Squeezing his cat. With another loud pound on the glass, Matt grits his teeth, about to throw what would be the child equivalent of a tantrum when a large guard comes up and grabs him roughly. With a shove, he is taken to the door of the visiting room and finally back to his cell, all of his thoughts revolving around revenge on Phoenix Wright*

earthquake, wright, i hate you, shoe
