24hr Write-A-Thon for SYH

Everyone is aware of the terrible tragedy that struck Japan on March 11th. SHOW YOUR HEART is a charity organization founded by popular Japanese Musician, GACKT, in an effort to reach out immediately to the many suffering in the aftermath. GACKT has asked the whole world to be a part of this relief effort. He asks us to reach out our hands and show the strength of our hearts in helping the victims of the disaster. These people are not just victims, they are fellow human beings. They're not "someone else's problem" because they are in a country far away from us. They are our brothers and sisters and they need our help.

WHO:
Any and all writers are welcome.

PLEASE COMMENT OR PM ME IF PARTICIPATING SO I CAN GIVE YOU CHATROOM INFO FOR SAT.

WHAT:
This is going to be run like a walk-a-thon or similar, where you collect pledges according to how you plan to participate except instead of walking, we're writing. There's no stipulation on what you can write except it should be some kind of fiction, story or even just your feelings. One writing project for the whole 24hrs is pretty much the only rule when it comes to what you should write. Obviously, this is all on the honor system, but still, be honorable about it.

INFO:
To get around miles of red-tape and legalities, I recommend that you ask friends and family for whatever kind of donation they can afford to give. Don't stand on the street and have people pledge money, or go to other public places. According to this website; privately held charity events (ie held on private property and not accessible to the public) do not generally require a license. However this site is for the UK. I also asked my grandmother and she said if you ask friends and family for donations to a charity, it should be okay. I know, that's probably not very convincing, but so far I haven't seen anything that says if you're privately collecting funds among friends/family that you need a permit. If you're unsure check your local laws for private fund raising information.

So, please keep that in mind.

PLEDGES:
I'm going to leave it up to you how you present this to your friends/family. You can get pledges a few ways:

1. If you don't think you can make it a whole 24hrs, have people donate x amount of dollars for however many hours you participate. (Ex- Mr. Smith pledges to donate $1 for every hour you write. You write for the whole 24hrs, Mr. Smith owes you $24.)

2. X amount of $ per 1000 words. Say you write 20,000 words if someone pledged $1 per 1000 words, they owe you $20.

3. You ask people to donate what they can afford for your participation in the event. So Mr. Jones says he'll give $10 to you for participating. When the event is over, he will owe you $10.

Since we have a limited amount of time to collect pledges before the event I think it's good that we're keeping it to friends and family anyway.

After the close of the write-a-thon, collect the donations (if you don't do so beforehand) and make your donation to SYH/Japanese Red Cross. Make sure you make a screencap or save a receipt of payment. Block out any sensitive information and pm me with an image showing you've made your donation and I'll reward you with a celebratory badge for your LJ Profile.

WHEN:
This event will start at Noon April 2nd and run til Noon April 3rd.

I am in Ohio, USA so this event will be starting Eastern Standard Time. Anyone anywhere in the world is welcome to join us. To find out what time we'll be starting in your time zone, check this site for conversion.

It's okay if you can't participate for the whole 24hrs, please come and write and help us help others.

OTHER:
I'll be setting up a chatroom on mibbit.com so we can all convene there and spend our 24hrs doing word wars, challenges and keeping our spirits high.

If you have any questions/comments/suggestions feel free to PM me, leave a comment or contact me on AIM/Yahoo: nightsideink (is my SN for both)
