So I keep seeing posts on Tumblr about how neither misandry nor heterophobia actually exist. And I will agree with this to an extent. Absolutely, no question. They are not legitimate social issues, not by a long shot, and are frequently just people of male and/or straight privilege reacting negatively to other people wanting the same rights as them. I know this and I won't even attempt to disagree at all.

However, it's really fucking awkward when you have a friend who genuinely is both misandrist and heterophobic and you can consistently watch the way she attempts to exclude people based on these things without even noticing she's doing it or realising she's actually being kind of a bitch. And it truly is disheartening.

As a queer feminist, can I just say that treating "them" the same way a great deal of society treats "us" isn't going help the cause in any way? It's not proving any points, although I don't believe that is at all the individual in question's goal, and it's just reducing yourself to the same level as those who have tried to persecute you. If you really want to see a difference in the world, be the better person. It seriously just makes me sad to see a queer, female variation of the same damn brand of asshole.
