*grin* Thank you. I'm really enamored of this pairing now... well, I'm enamored of most possible pairings on the show, but there's something about the way they arrive at the same brothers-in-arms place from different angles...

I am now officially head-over-heels in love with this pairing. Not that I wasn't very pleased by it before, but now? Oh, little cartoon hearts all over again. I think a big part of it is the fellow-soldiers vibe between the two of them, and the fact that they come at it from such different angles adds a really nice tension to everything.

And all of it is just so achingly sad: Mac not wanting to remember, and how he keeps getting struck by the things he doesn't want to remember, over and over again. Things like dry air smelling like gunpowder (or vice versa), and the Sand can get in everything line. You use Abernathy so beautifully, too, and I love all of the resonances. Like this:

It echoes in Mac’s head-call you by your Christian name, like this-

It took me a second, when I read that, to make the connection, and then it was like a gut punch. And This way nobody rhymes.

And the vulnerability in Flack that creeps out during their encounter is equally heartbreaking.

Plus, hot sex, but that's a given.

Thank you. *grin* For over a month I've been practically living with some version of that moment when Flack kisses Mac and the past rises up around him. And thanks again for letting me play with Abernathy. That moment in Light from a Dead Star stuck with me from the first time I read it. I really love the way you structured that story, by the way.

And the vulnerability in Flack that creeps out during their encounter is equally heartbreaking.

Oh I'm so glad that came through because, on the one hand, it really *is* casual at this point, and therefore less fraught than either of them with, say, Danny... but at the same time that isn't the same as "doesn't mean anything." And there's also the way Flack's complicated in that all his cop-ness is absolutely genuine, but it co-exists with something truly sweet.

WOW. Now I must admit I am not a great fan of this pairing. I dont know I just cant seem to develop a feeling for Flack the way I have about the other characters in the show. But you have me intrigued. I want to see where this goes. I want to see how they both handle whats happened between them. Probably because I dont have a strong handle on who Flack is and how he will react and how Mac will react to him ( ... )

Thank you. For the longest time I didn't quite get them as a pairing, but now that I do I'm really enamored of them. It has something to do with the tension in the way they arrive at the same brothers-in-arms place from almost opposite angles. And, well, I do have quite a bit planned for them.

I really love Flack because all his bad ass cop-ness co-exists with this genuine sweetness... stellaluna_ puts it perfectly--he's that great friend who will not hesitate to smack you upside the head when you need it but will always stick by you come hell and highwater.
