1) linger in bed
Laura stretches a little and rolls closer to the warm body next to her, wrapping the sweet haze of sleep closer like another blanket. Then Elizabeth has to ruin it by moving away, the shift of her body saying that she’s going to get out of bed now.
Laura groans and wraps an arm around Elizabeth’s waist.
“I need to go to the bathroom,” Elizabeth says, her lips against Laura’s temple.
“I don’t believe you.”
“Okay.” Elizabeth sighs. “I thought I’d get a few things done while you slept in.”
Laura grumbles and loosens her hold around Elizabeth’s waist. Elizabeth takes this as permission to roll out of bed, but Laura pulls her back down, pinning her easily.
“Hi,” Laura says and kisses Elizabeth gently.
“Good morning.”
“Someone hasn’t been practicing their hand-to-hand.”
“You got me.” Elizabeth smiles and tries to squirm free.
“I do indeed.” Laura presses Elizabeth’s wrists more firmly to the bed. “Seriously, though. I know you can take care of yourself, but I wish you’d practice more.”
“I know.” Elizabeth clears her throat. “Um, Laura? Are you going to let me go?”
“No.” Laura relaxes, laying down on top of Elizabeth. “I’m comfy right here.”
“You know I’m a morning person-”
“Which doesn’t mean you have to use the morning of your day off to do paperwork.” Laura shifts, pressing her thigh between Elizabeth’s legs. “Besides, I’m awake now.”
“You know.” Elizabeth grins wickedly. “I’m starting to see certain other advantages to being good at hand-to-hand.”
“Really?” Laura does her best to look innocent.
Elizabeth leans up to nip Laura’s lower lip. “Oh, yes.”
2) blow something up
“Are you trying to burn down Pier Four?” McKay’s going to burst a blood vessel if he keeps this up.
“I know what I’m doing, Rodney.” Laura raises a hand. “Resident explosives expert, remember?”
Then Elizabeth and Sheppard show up at the same time, and Rodney launches into a full blown rant about the sheer irresponsibility of Laura’s behavior and exactly what a threat she is to the well-being of Atlantis.
Laura thinks that McKay is overreacting just a little.
Halling and a couple other Athosians had stopped to visit with Teyla, so Laura had stolen an hour to show Wex and Jinto how to safely set off the fireworks she’d made for them. They’d gone out to the big amphitheater at the end of Pier Four so she could demonstrate a roman candle and a bottle rocket in relative darkness. Now the kids are keeping quiet off to the side. She thinks they look more fascinated than afraid.
“All right, Rodney. We get the picture,” Elizabeth says. Laura can see the tension around Elizabeth’s mouth that means she’s trying desperately not to smile.
“Can we see the explosives in question?” Sheppard asks. Laura breathes a little sigh of relief because her C.O. is doing a pretty bad job of looking like a hard-ass, and she knows exactly how scary he can be when the occasion calls for it.
“Of course.” Laura brings the fireworks over. “They’re for the Athosian new year celebration.”
“So they have a cultural significance?” Elizabeth asks. Neither Sheppard nor McKay notice the little smile that breaks through Elizabeth’s professional mask.
“Exactly.” Laura grins back at Elizabeth. “The kids already make little firecrackers to ring in the new year. I was just helping them out.
Sheppard examines one of the bottle rockets. “They are pretty small.”
“Small?” McKay splutters. “The sensors registered a fire and an explosion in this room.”
Sheppard gives back the bottle rocket. “In the future, Lieutenant, make sure to test your fireworks outside.”
3) have a long lunch
In the mess, Elizabeth feigns disapproval for a whole ten minutes before they start to talk about the upcoming four-day celebration of the Athosian new year. After a while, once the mess has started to clear out, Laura slumps down in her chair a little and slides her foot next to Elizabeth’s.
Elizabeth immediately starts to feign disapproval again, but her lips are twitching into a smile and she doesn’t pull her foot away.
“I thought we agreed it was best if we were subtle in public,” Elizabeth says.
Laura grins. “This is subtle for me.”
4) watch a movie
After lunch, they go back to Elizabeth’s room and curl up on the bed to watch a movie. The Interpreter is good, but there aren’t nearly enough explosions. Laura finds her attention starting to wander.
“You know what would be fun?” Laura asks when the movie’s over.
“What?” There is, to be fair, a perfectly appropriate amount of wariness on Elizabeth’s face.
“If we got a video camera and taped ourselves.”
“I don’t think so.” Elizabeth’s mouth quirks.
“You don’t like to watch?”
“Well,” Elizabeth says. “I just think a videotape is a bit risky.”
Laura knows that’s half an excuse, but that’s okay because the videotape is only a bargaining chip. Every once in a while Elizabeth needs a little persuading. Hell, Elizabeth probably knows it, too.
“Hmm.” Laura takes a deep breath. “What if you get yourself off while I watch?”
Elizabeth thinks for a moment, but Laura suspects it’s mostly for show.
“Okay.”
5) take a long, hot bath
Laura sinks deeper into the hot water and slides her foot along the outside of Elizabeth’s thigh.
Elizabeth’s eyes are closed, and she hums. “This is nice.”
“It really is.” Laura makes a little mound of bubbles over each of her breasts.
Elizabeth opens her eyes and laughs, then reaches across to smooth the bubbles away. Laura gasps. Her whole body has felt oversensitive since she got in the bath.
“Where’d you get the bubbles,” Elizabeth asks, leaning in to kiss the back of Laura’s jaw.
“Won them off Simpson at last week’s poker game.”
“And the bath oils?”
“Traded with Teyla. The fireworks.” Laura gasps again.
Elizabeth chuckles and draws a finger from the hollow of Laura’s throat straight down her body, across her stomach, her pelvis, down to between her legs.
