things i didn't experience in japan:
string cheese (i forgot!)
giant geek stores, especially those filled with boys love doujinshi
yakuza with enormous dragon tattoos (or anyone who looked even vaguely criminal)
a proper public bathhouse - onsen don't count
being packed into a subway carriage by station attendants
things i did experience in japan:
melonpan
conbini creme brulee (at leat once a day)
a potato parfait
a queue of punters waiting for the pachinko parlour to open, 10 on a weekday morning
much host hair
next time i travel i will:
arrange for a phone with gps
carry sleeping pills
stay somewhere nice on the last night and order room service
make better use of the phrasebook
buy gifts early and then quit worrying about it
