Thankful Thursday

Nov 25, 2010 08:52

...because after the week I've had, it's important for me to keep some perspective.

I'm thankful for my smart, perceptive, funny brother and his enormous heart, and for the woman who's made him so happy that he wants to keep her forever. (Besides, any woman willing to share my brother's heart with his dog, his everyday car, his Sterling kit car, his dune buggy, and his motorcycle must be someone special. ::grin::)

I'm thankful for my smart, funny, and wise cousin Ellen, who's just awesome anyway but who also helps me remember I have blood family who were, and are, amazing people.

I'm thankful for my cousin Paul, who makes the world a more interesting place by sharing his knowledge and his beautiful butterfly photographs with all of us.

I'm thankful for my friends near and far, my chosen family, whom I love like crazy and who are unfailingly supportive. I'm so fortunate to have such a wide array of brilliant, funny, kind, and gifted people in my life. (If you're wondering--yeah, you.)

I'm thankful for Spanky and Sophie, my lovey, funny, beasties who woke me this morning by cuddling up to be warm and by nudging me with their noses for pets and scritches.

I'm thankful to be employed and have a steady income, health insurance (which I ought to use at some point soon), congenial coworkers, and the skill to retain all of these things.

I'm thankful for my lovely home, my little car, my health, my brains, and my talents.

I'm thankful for this life which, hard as it can be and has been, is still worth rising for each day. Lennon (and many others, I suspect) said that where there's life, there's hope. And for that, I'm enormously grateful.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone (or, as my brother says, "Eat the bird!"). Stay warm, drive safely. Have a wonderful meal and a lovely day.

pictures, thankful
