Shanghaied by biology

The day started so pleasantly, but this afternoon has just been a struggle.

I've been looking for a nice summer skirt. Found one this morning at the Fremont Sunday Market that reminds me of a favorite skirt I had in high school. I got to walk in the sunshine, have a tasty breakfast, and come home with something useful that was also economical and pretty. That was a goodness.

But it got just hot enough this afternoon that any hope I had of getting much accomplished was significantly hindered. The heat just nailed me, made me miserably sleepy, and I ended up napping. A lot. I have homework to do for the job, and I've gotten some of it done, writing between bouts of sleep that come on almost like narcolepsy: instant and irresistible. It's a good thing my desk is only about ten steps from my bed, because this phenomenon is actually a little alarming. I'm pushing through.

The heat has nailed Spanky, too. He's been attempting to flatten himself out on the carpet as much as possible. Of course, he's substantial enough that he manages only to achieve mound rather than flat. Flat was Merlin's forte even at the height of health.

I should get back to work. I've got the soundtrack from "Gladiator" playing. I've got scripts to use as examples. I'm going to make some iced tea and then immerse myself once more in the writing.

health, weather, shopping
