RadCon Day One

Feb 16, 2008 09:45

tbclone47 picked me up a little later than we'd planned yesterday; ultimately it was to my benefit--I needed the time so it was all good. The drive over was pleasant and non-eventful. As we drive east through the mountains, we discussed the enormous amounts of snow plowed to either side of the road (though the pavement was dry), and I couldn't help contrasting those high heaps to the snow-laced landscapes of the desert later, once we were past the highlands. It's pretty dramatic-looking country in this sort of weather, and the fine company made it well worth the trip.

We arrived around 2:30-3ish, and things pretty much took off from there. All the usual suspects are in attendance. At opening ceremonies, bhagwanx received the John W. Dalmas Award for service above and beyond the call at RadCon. Gorgeous plaque; ask him to show it to you. I'll have pictures to post upon my return to Seattle. I have visited thus far with skaldic, davidlevine, erdnase2000 (plus wife and kidlet), kenscholes and lovely spouse (there was girl-kissing, and you people missed it!), bjcooper, kenyonsf, ramblin_phyl and many others. The prevailing theme of the day for me was the gauntlet tossed down by my boss, to prove that conventions really are the pits of debauchery about which he's heard so much. There may be pictures on this subject as well; time will tell, though a couple have already been acquired.

Generally speaking, I'm enjoying myself. I'm feeling pretty low key today; that may change later. We'll see.

And now, I must away. My first panel--about proper manuscript format (how exciting!)--is in 15 minutes.
