The Good Shepherd
Saw it last night with ironymaiden. My thinking had been to post a detailed review, but this morning I'm thinking a brief review would be better. Good script, fine performances, excellent period detail (World War II through Cuban Missile Crisis). Not a film to go see if you want to be cheered up, but it has a good, complex plot with some fine character-building. The picture is obviously being positioned by its studio as Oscar-worthy, given its cast, release date and positioning. I am in no wise convinced. I never felt that moment of recognition I get when I see an Oscar-worthy performance. The work is high quality, however, and the film is well worth seeing.
