I just discovered that Monnaie de Paris (that's the French mint) is issuing
a series of coins honoring Jules Verne and they're gorgeous. And they're kind of expensive, even the silver (as opposed to the gold) ones. But they're so pretty. I'll be ordering the least expensive of the bunch just so I can have the single commemorative (at five euros, how could even I complain?). But when I'm feeling a little more solvent, I may come back for "Around the World in 80 Days" or "From the Earth to the Moon." Hard to resist.
These wouldn't be the first coins I've ordered from Monnaie de Paris. I also have an Einstein commemorative and a space travel commemorative. They do beautiful work.
Oh and, yes, I left work early and came home to rest. I got out of bed for this because I found an item about the Verne series in The Numismatist and had to order and then squee. I have now done both. Mission accomplished!
