Posted this on Facebook, but I think it will have a longer life here and I really do want to save it. Plus, I wanted to add some thoughts and comments:
Last night, I walked into 7-11 and went to the soft drink case at the back of the store to get some soda. A man joined me in the same aisle: About 6 feet tall, a big, broad shouldered black man in a red brocade three piece suit. He filled the space as he entered it. His shirt was red. His tie was red. His suit coat reached nearly to his knees. Only his Homburg hat and his shiny shoes were white. He peered into the refrigerator case. "What?" he said in this remarkable, almost theatrical baritone, "No Diet Cherry Coke? My feelings is hurt. My feelings is hurt!" I wonder but do not ask, looking at this delightful ensemble, if he is dressed for a performance of some kind. He is certainly, by far, the most snappily dressed customer this 7-11 has ever seen.
What I didn't mention over on Facebook was that I couldn't help but compliment the gentleman on his sartorial splendor. He seemed so disconsolate about the lack of Diet Cherry Coke that I said, "You can't be sad in such awesome clothes. They're my favorite color! See that red car outside? That's mine. That suit is downright awesome." He grinned and said, "Thank you ma'am. Thank you." He was just delicious to my eyes in that astonishing red suit.
One of the commenters over on Facebook said, "I think you were supposed to go with him. He might have been the next Doctor. I want to see the inside of THAT TARDIS."
I can't help but wonder if she was right. :-)
