My God, the sun came out to day! It was a glorious, warm, blue day. It was almost enough to convince me that spring was here. Rhododendrons were in bloom. People were wearing hoodies rather than fleece. And I walked. A lot. My pedometer says 13,467 steps or 5.5 miles. And what did I do, this first Saturday of my experiment in carlessness in Seattle?
I went up to the top of Queen Anne Hill, dropped off some dry cleaning, did a little grocery shopping and walked back down. I took the bus to the U District, stopped into U Books, stopped at Goodwill for their designer accessories sale (which, while offering bargains relative to the actual prices of designer goods, still had items priced higher than I could justify spending), and met a friend from last weekend's retreat for a delightful hour's worth of coffee. Took the bus back to Fremont, had sushi for dinner, then came home. I've been reading ever since.
Lovely day.
Tonight the clocks spring forward and in the morning I get up stupid early for a Sunday to meet the crew for writing. And boy, I have writing to do.
And please, remind me again and again: I need a full-spectrum lightbox. There is no doubt in my mind that my mood is massively affected by sunlight or lack of same, and it is poor self care that keeps me from buying such a thing for myself. Seriously.
