My Next Big Adventure

It's been brewing for a while, but tonight I finalized the last travel details of my autumn excursion, so now I feel like I can really talk about it.

In late September, EB and I take off for Europe! Specifically, E and I will be spending 10 days in Paris. From there, she'll depart for home, but I'll head to Vilnius, Lithuania, there to meet and travel with skidspoppe for 5 days. Lastly, I travel from Vilnius to Amsterdam for three days and thence home to Seattle at last. All told, it's about three weeks of European travel and I couldn't be more thrilled.

E and I have let a one-bedroom apartment in the Latin quarter of Paris for our sojourn. I couldn't be more excited about this part of the trip. I studied French all throughout school, from junior high school through college. I still have just enough to get by, but have been practicing a bit in preparation for the trip. I've also been reading quite a bit to get a little more acclimated.

The Vilnius leg of the trip wouldn't have happened if Skids weren't living and teaching there, but Lithuania also has the attraction of being ancestral stomping grounds--it's where my great grandfather came from. I have some reading and research to do on that.

Amsterdam got stuck onto the end of the trip because all flights out of Vilnius seemed to stop there. I'm looking forward to going to Anne Frank House, the Hermitage (which is where all the Van Gogh Museum's art will be while it's going through renovation), the canals, and so much more.

So--yay! Big trip, and I leave relatively soon. I'm so excited I can barely stand it!
