A Quiet Weekend Turns Busy

Apr 22, 2012 22:02

I had almost no plans for this weekend. It was to be a quiet weekend in which I quietly got things done. Well, I didn't get much done, and it was only sort of quiet, but it actually feels quite satisfactory to me.

Friday, shelly_rae invited me to join her for dinner and a movie, specifically to see Footnote (trailer), an Israeli film about the rivalry between two Talmudic scholars, a father and son, and what happens when a major prize meant for one is accidentally given to the other. It's a terrific film, insightful, funny, wry, and tragic all at once, well worth seeing.

Saturday, overratedomac and I spent the afternoon at Kubota Gardens, walking in the sunshine and taking pictures. I hope to download the shots within the next couple of days and post some online. I think I got some nice stuff.

This morning, I had a lovely catch-up call with herself_nyc, and went to Seattle Center with snarke to see the World's Fair exhibits in honor of the Seattle World's Fair 50th anniversary--wonderful stuff. So much fun.

I spent the afternoon sitting on the balcony reading (bjcooper's Mayan December) and snoozing. It was a perfect day for it: warm and pleasant, and very quiet in the neighborhood. I had dinner with the delightful inevitableguy, who is flying solo while dreamline visits family in Florida. We ate at Jai Thai, possibly the only Thai restaurant in Fremont I hadn't yet tried. The food was good; the company, most excellent. We took a long walk after dinner. I was fading by the time we finally got around to discussing photography, scanning negatives, and my dad's Roleiflex camera. We must definitely continue the conversation.

And now I'm home. I feel like it was a fine weekend indeed. Am I ready to go back to work? Not quite, but I don't get to make that choice. Tomorrow night I'm off for my first night at the Cinerama's science fiction film festival to see "Silent Running." If you're going, let me know, eh? Would love to have some company.
