Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

Saw this Oscar contender yesterday afternoon in a sudden decision to take advantage of matinee pricing. I have never read the novel and didn't see the BBC mini-series, so I went in cold, with no prior knowledge except that Gary Oldman's performance has been lauded, that his character's name was George Smiley, and that it had something to do with ( Read more... )

Hmm... I have to come into Seattle tonight for a Potlatch meeting anyway and I see there is a matinee showing at the Seven Gables at 4:15.

I guess I am going to see this today, based on your recommendation!

I've heard it was slow in a negative way, and I don't mind non-action films, as long as the story moves along. It's back on the if we have time docket after your review, although it is sad, that we don't get to puzzle it out, it's my favorite game in spy films. :)

And tell me if I should capitalize "I Read Somewhere..." the_same_andrew January 27 2012, 02:15:22 UTC
Well, in any event, I Read Somewhere that John LeCarre can't read silently without moving his lips. When he's reading by himself (ie., alone in a room) he reads aloud to himself.

I think he's the most brilliant living writer in English. If I were a reader (which I'm not, of course) his work is what I'd read first.

If I went to movies (which I'd prefer not to do ever again) I'd definitely go see this one.

This review makes me want to see it - we own the Alec Guiness version, so this should be interesting ;>
