Looking up things that way, I'll say that the use of several tags is your friend. Fandom specific tags as well as genre tags (i.e. h/c or slash) and then even more specific tags if possible. Hurt!Jack, or Jack/Nine or ratings or length of story are also great. Author tags can be helpful too, but aren't always necessary.
I like that you can look up within tags so you click on torchwood and then h/c so you only see the h/c tags within Torchwood and not other fandoms.
That said, some people use WAY too many tags. One fic does not need 15 or 20 different tags, that's just muddled and confusing.
It's also nice when people put something in the summary box (if the title doesn't make it obvious- "big bang rec list" doesn't need an explanation).
To make bookmarking easier there are two firefox extensions you can use that I know of. Read it later (which I use because there are plenty of times I don't have time to read it now, but I don't want to bookmark it forever) or delicious bookmarks both of which make adding something to your delicious account very easy.

I never knew of the Read It Later extension. That is brilliant! Sometimes the weight of open tabs makes my laptop barely portable. ;) I'm talking open for days.
Thanks for the tip!
