I have been swimming in DW - Doctor Who mostly and to a lesser extent Dreamwidth. I like Dreamwidth, I'm not 100% comfortable with it yet but it's the most viable LJ-alernative I've seen so I'm taking a wait and see approach. I have a perm acct. here so don't foresee leaving but I'm definitely keeping my options open and will try, at the very least, to cross post fannish stuff just in case the diaspora really happens. I'm adding people as I come across them and as I have time to spend over there so if you have an account - let me know. I do like the "access" and "subscribe" option. There a loads of people I'd like to follow but really didn't want to expose them to my natterings on children, husband or the state of my closet.
In other news, Doctor Who has pretty much devoured my soul the past few weeks. Mad Norwegian Press is putting out a series of
fanzine anthologies this year and I was asked to contribute two of my Enlightenment columns and to submit a third that was a combination/expansion of two previous pieces.
The editing meant revisiting those naive moments of S2 when we thought we knew where the story was going to go. HA! Rewriting the third piece meant delving into a bit more Classic Who. Can I now declare my complete adoration for the Seventh Doctor? I've only seen a few of the stories but I'm going to start from the beginning watch straight through because I loved McCoy's portrayal. And Ace! Oh, there will be lots to say about Ace. I also want to check out the audios because I heard they were quite good and the Doctor goes in some interesting directions. Plus there's bonus Hex who I know nothing about but who people *cough*
livii*cough* seem to think is brilliant.
The whole process made me crave some Who-ish interaction. Since I'm loving the new season of Eight/Lucie I thought I'd try to chat that up but it failed to launch. I guess not a lot of people are listening. Which is a shame because there's new Who every Saturday - just like a proper series and everything! I even went looking for love discussion off-LJ. Shocking I know but LJ fandom is a quagmire some days and I really didn't feel like having WHATEVER conversation turn into another round of Companion wars or RTD is the best/is the devil. I don't mind discussing elements of those opinions but things on LJ tend to be "if you think "A" then your opinion is invalid and I judge you." And, frankly, I wasn't in the mood for the bullshit.
But off-LJ fandom is a weird place. It's filled with a lot of boys who have their own language and secret handshakes. And a lot of "if you think "A" then you clearly don't remember that time the Doctor twisted the widget and reversed the polarity of his ass in Season 13". So, I either need to commit the minutiae to memory or put a stupid tag after my name and become a" MILF for Malcolm" and go join the squee threads at DWF.
I don't know, there should be happy medium someplace. I know comms go dark when there's no new content but things seem so quiet. Aaaand I realize how narcissistic this sounds in a "why won't fandom dance for me!" sort of way but I love my show and want to talk about it! Is there a fandom Shangri-La?
