Quite Literally, An Idiot Box

Ok. I give. I don't believe I can take the lack of intelligence & lack of taste that Americans continue to show these days.

Before now, it was simply a nuisance. Now it is really starting to pile up. And nowhere is this more prevalent than TV.

First off, I will begin by saying that if you plan on condescending to me and saying "Oh, I don't watch TV" in some sort of self-righteous act of preservation & grandiose aloofedness, that you can kiss my ENTIRE ass.

That being said, the people who don't watch TV with any kind of taste are starting to get on my nerves as well. In the economy we live in, everything is being downsized & cropped... and TV is no exception.

So thanks to the economy we are stuck with at the moment coupled with the ever-present corporate advertising greed & the not-quite-reaching-triple-digits IQ of the average John & Jane "D'oh!", many of my favorite shows are being shaved by the episode... and some just outright cancelled.

First it was the "lawyer answering to a higher authority" Eli Stone. Now possibly the "Irresistably Fun, although Silly, but a nice break from all the 'heavy' stuff" Knight Rider. CBS is now rumored to cancel two of their longest running series: Without a Trace & Cold Case. And even if they were just a poor man's Law & Order, they required THOUGHT to process.

And just recently... the straw that broke the camel's writer's block: ABC has now canceled "Life On Mars".

(Now remember, when I type in all caps, it means I'm yelling.)

FUCK!

Are you fucking kidding me? A BBC show that was well-written & well-acted... transplanted here into the states and given one of the greatest assemblies of actors that I have seen in years.

Jason O'Mara, Harvey Keitel, Michael Imperioli, Gretchen Mol & Lisa Bonet. Shut up! ...You had me at "Harvey Keitel".

And even after 2 episodes (granted, the premise is a little flimsy, but the acting is solid) people are already lukewarm on "Castle". WHAT THE HELL DO PEOPLE HAVE AGAINST NATHAN FILLION???

And the news doesn't get any easier... Chuck & Heroes are now garnering ratings lows. Regardless, I want to make one thing perfectly clear. Are you listening NBC? I sincerely hope so.

*ahem*

Heroes I like. But Heroes I can come to terms with the loss of. But... I SWEAR. TO THE MOTHER OF ALL THINGS BIG AND SMALL. IF YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT CANCELLING "CHUCK"... FOR ANY REASON... I WILL NEVER WATCH ANOTHER NBC BROADCAST OF ANYTHING. EVER AGAIN.

And the worst thing about all this is that I know EXACTLY what these morons are watching instead of these quality television shows that employ producers, actors, writers, etc.

It's the ongoing evil... the demonic contraption... the unholy machination known as "Reality TV". American Idol persists. Survivor persists. Dancing with the MOTHERFUCKING Stars persists. All the kitchen shows, competition shows, "I wanna find love" shows, burnt-out has-been celebrity shows, singing shows, dancing shows, talent shows, ALL OF THEM... PERSIST.

Unwantedly & Unneedingly.

I am so ungodly sick of reality TV. I am done being complacent about it. I am going to start raising awareness about this if ONE MORE OF MY SHOWS GETS CANCELED.

Even if I have to make a deal with the devil.

'Til Next Time...

"... but you might have to metaphorically make a deal with the devil, and by 'devil', I mean Robot Devil, and by 'metaphorically', I mean get your coat."
