My lovely Friday

Yesterday I woke up with a splitting migraine, one like I haven't had in a really long time. Even still, I debated going to work (I was the early screener, meaning no one else was likely to be there to fill in). That was until I stood up and realized there was no way. I called in sick and took an Imitrex and my favorite BC Powder, but still had the headache 2 hours later. It was awful, not to mention the cats thinking it must be a holiday since I was still in bed and running across me in a "let's play tag!" capacity. So i got up, went downstairs, and tried to eat, but the nausea prevented that nicely. I took another Imitrex and BC (at which point I knew that if I didn't get better I wouldn't be able to take any more). Michael reluctantly went to work, but in about an hour I was in agony. So I called him to take me to the ER.

Going to the ER with a migraine is never a fun experience, at least in my history. You are at the bottom of their list to see, and often you get treated like a drug seeker. Usually I try to suffer through, but I couldn't do that this time. Luckily for me I now work in the hospital and not only that but I know people. One is John, who when I called my department and told them I had arrived and was waiting out in the waiting room- he called in a favor to the doctor there that he used to work with and got me in immediately. Man, it really is all about who you know. So they gave me a fluid bolus (an IV full of normal saline) and lots of meds, and fairly quickly I was feeling better. Everyone in my department stopped by to see me, making look and feel mighty popular.

On the way home I was starving, and craving bad for me food. So we went to Manuel's Tavern and I had a grilled cheese and fries... man, it's been SO long since I had a french fry. Then just a quick stop by Dunkin' Donuts for ice cream and donuts for tomorrow and I was such a happy girl. I fought to stay awake on the sofa as we watched our most recent Netflix arrivals- I feel strongly about keeping the turn around time low so that I get my money's worth. It's all a drug-haze to me now, but it was interesting having that much medication on board and trying to function at all. So that was my lovely Friday. Not the best way to spend a sick day- actually being sick. Saturday we go to Macon to see Brian and Ami! Yay!!!

health, work
