Wrong Signs

A dark eyebrow was raised as a waiter brought a bouquet of red roses to their table. The blond man sitting across from him smiled and blushed prettily. The other patrons whispered about the young Uchiha heir and his gorgeous companion sitting together at a table, staring and pointing discreety at the flowers.
"What is this?" The black-haired man drawled.
"You love me, right? So aren't you going to use this chance to propose? Ya know, the fancy restaurant, the nice present, you're always helping me and stuff, and don't tell me you haven't been giving me looks! I'm just helping you along," Naruto said with a wide smile.
"Love? Propose?" Sasuke's voice held a slight tinge of confusion and incredulity.
"I know what you're thinking. Don't try to deny it!"
"I've never loved you. What are you trying to pull off here. I was watching you because Sakura told me that she thought there was something wrong with you, and as a friend, I am obligated to help her check up on you. I helped you because it's a friend's duty to help a friend, though I don't really know why I'm friends with such an idiot. And me bringing you to this restaurant and the gift was because it's your birthday. Baka dobe. What, you think those things were signs of my affection?"
By now, the whole restaurant was silent, listening intently to their conversation. Everyone's eyes were on them, waiting, watching for the blond's reaction. The bright, hopeful smile slid off his face, and he suddenly found everything except the dark-haired man very interesting. Sneers and snickers followed his actions as people laughed at his delusions of the famous Uchiha ever loving him. A strangled noise he couldn't really call a laugh escaped Naruto's lips.
"Um - ha ha? Uh... Darn, I almost got you there!" He forced out with a sheepish grin. People's attentions slowly moved away from them as they went back to their own meals. Did no one notice the vibrant blue orbs losing their shine? The blond's eyes looked dead to the world, and the dark-haired man didn't know why.
He didn't know why the blond had decided to play such a stupid prank that was obviously going to backfire on him.
He didn't know why his friend suddenly didn't want to meet his eyes anymore.
He didn't know why he felt so goddamn awful.
He didn't know why his chest felt so empty and hurt, like a thousand knives had pierced his heart, leaving holes and tearing at scars, as the life fled out of his body.

A/N: I IS BACK :D
but my brain is fried... school's sapping all of my creativity TT^TT
Yes, I realize that the whole thing is a mess. I'm just too lazy to go back and fix it. A really choppy and awkward story, but OH WELL.
Hope you enjoyed!
