A Big Mess
---
In retrospect, he should’ve known that having them all live together was a bad idea.

‘Sasuke-kun… and Naruto? No… no way…’
But it was.
The pink-haired kunoichi had stood at the door of their shared room, hand out ready to knock to tell them breakfast was ready, when she heard a weird sound. Placing her ear at the door, she heard faint moans, calls of ‘Sasuke!’ from the unmistakable voice of Naruto, and a low grunt. Curious, the girl opened the door slightly, just enough for her to see inside.
Emerald eyes widened in shock at the sight of the blond and brunette, bodies intertwined. Young she might be, but innocent she was not. The kunoichi training in the Academy had taught her much about the relationships and intimacies between males and females, and occasionally people of the same gender. ‘Are they doing… what I think they’re doing?’ Tears started to form as she rushed back to the empty dining room. She collapsed down onto a chair at the table, hands trembling wildly.
A white-haired shadow at the doorway paused. ‘Don’t tell me Sakura heard them,’ Kakashi groaned silently. If only he knew. He treaded down the hall silently, stopping before a wooden door with the kanji for ‘boy’ on it. He knocked loudly. “Sasuke! Naruto! Get up, it’s time for breakfast!”
The door creaked open, and an irate Uchiha poked his head out to glare at him. “Hn. Give us ten minutes.”
‘Speaking a bare minimum as usual. You’d think he was socially retarded or someth- Wait, he is,’ Kakashi thought offhandedly. “You know, you guys were too loud. I think Sakura heard you,” the jounin whispered seriously.
Charcoal eyes widened slightly. A gasp could be heard from the room. No doubt, with Kyuubi’s heightened senses, Naruto could hear their conversation. The blond popped out next to Sasuke with a worried look on his face, mouth open to speak. “See you guys in five minutes,” he interrupted Naruto jovially, eyes curved into his normal eye-smile as if nothing was wrong, but they could all hear the underlying current of warning in his voice.
Back in the dining room, Sakura wasn’t faring so well. She felt completely oppressed by the silence, where nothing and no one that could distract her from her thoughts. No matter what she did, her mind always went back to the two boys in her team. The numbness in her heart and mind was welcoming; it suppressed all her emotions and feelings. Particularly the anger and pain.
The quiet pitter-patter of footsteps broke the silence, causing her to whip her head in the direction of the noise.
“Yo!” Kakashi waved cheerfully from the doorway, orange smut book already in hand.
Sakura smiled weakly from her seat. “Ohayo, sensei.” She knew that he had sensed her mood. Why else bother to make such loud noises to alert her to his presence?
Kakashi could hear the subdued tone in her words. “Cheer up, Sakura-chan! Hm? I think Sasuke and Naruto are coming out of their room. Finally! Keeping us waiting, how rude. You guys are late.”
Naruto scowled as he walked into the room. “You’re the one to talk, sensei! Who was it that made us wait three hours just to go do some stupid D-rank mission, huh? You, that’s who!” He ranted self-righteously.
Sasuke grunted as he followed behind Naruto. “Shut up, dobe,” he muttered.
The two newcomers settled in their seats. During breakfast, they constantly bickered on who should get the last item on the plate, or that one of them had eaten more than the other, causing the loser to shove more food into their bowls to try to outdo the other. Sakura managed to smile. Everything seems to be back to normal. Maybe she had misinterpreted something? Maybe they were just play-fighting early in the morning? Those two could never stand to be in the same room with each other. They couldn’t possibly be lovers, right?

Sparring had begun after a light warm-up. All three chuunin plus Kakashi had headed out to the original Team 7’s training ground to resume their training with the jounin.
Sakura watched in admiration and a slight bit of envy as Naruto and Sasuke fought with all their might. They weaved around each other smoothly and gracefully, using everything to their advantage. Powerful attacks clashed against each other, sending residues and sparks of chakra all over the field. The flickers of chakra were only visible because of their potency.
Time seemed to have no meaning; it felt like she could have watched this fight all day long. Soon though, the copy-nin stopped the two. “Enough! Good fight, you two,” he congratulated the boys.
Sasuke walked over to where Naruto lay sprawled on the grass. “Nice work, dobe,” he smirked, offering a hand to the blond. Naruto smiled and took his hand. Sasuke pulled him up, then patted him on the back.
‘They are so close… why have I never noticed this before?’ Sakura thought bitterly. ‘They’re progressing so far in their training and becoming so powerful, and I’m just the girl that makes this team a four-man cell. I’m always just a burden to them. In the end, they’re always the ones that contribute the most to the mission, the one that always saves the day. Even my training with Tsunade-shishou doesn’t help me close the big gap between me and those two.’
“Okay, next fight: Naruto against Sakura!” Kakashi announced.
“What? But I just had my fight with Sasuke!” Naruto complained.
“Stop whining, baka. We can’t always have what we want,” the pink-haired girl muttered. Naruto had a guilty look on his face; Sasuke looked indifferent; Kakashi just pretended that he didn’t hear her and continued reading his porn.
The two team members stepped up, both taking stances on different sides of the field. At a signal from Kakashi, the two ninjas leapt towards each other. Before long, they were caught in a deadlock.
“Sakura, for what it’s worth, I’m really sorry. I know how it feels to not be accepted by someone. It hurts, but I really love Sasuke and he loves me. I hope you can forgive us,” Naruto apologized, compassion reflected in his eyes.
Compassion that was mistaken for pity. And if it was one thing that Sakura hated, it was pity. She felt her vision go red, and all her pent up fears and insecurities went flying out the window. Anger consumed her mind.
“You… you… monster! Why?! Why do you always have to take away what is mine! I should’ve been with Sasuke, not you!” She screamed, tears running down her face. “I’ve admired him ever since I’d laid eyes on him! Everything I’ve done up to now have been for him! He should’ve loved me! Not you! I hate you!” Her fists took on a light sheen as she coated it with chakra, courtesy of her training with Tsunade, before raining down punches on the blond. Naruto made no move to fight back, taking the burnt of her attacks.
This continued on for a few long agonizing moments: Sakura punching the lights out of Naruto, and the blond doing nothing to stop her. Sasuke stood at the sidelines, helpless to do anything against Sakura as Kakashi held him back. “This is their problem. Let them figure this out themselves, Sasuke,” the white-haired jounin whispered.
Sakura panted harshly, stamina running low, while Naruto looked ready to collapse with bruises all over his body, injuries that could’ve been fatal if not for the Kyuubi’s chakra.
The pink-haired girl suddenly stiffened, realizing with growing horror what she had inflicted on her friend and teammate. She bowed awkwardly to Naruto. “Sorry,” she whispered. “You’ll never see me again, I swear. Sorry… Sorry…”
In a flash of leaves, Sakura disappeared. Sasuke rushed forward as Naruto crumpled into his arms. The black-haired boy ran as fast as he could to the Hokage Tower, an unconscious and heavily bleeding blond in his arms. Tsunade would know what to do with Naruto.
Kakashi sighed as his students left him, ironically, alone by the Memorial Stone. ‘What a big mess.’
