Actually, I do want to set the world on fire.

Lately, I've been playing a silly amount of Fallout: New Vegas on the Xbox, because I enjoy video games that let me throw dynamite at people, loot corpses, and drink out of toilets. I've not sure how far into the story I am (I'm currently at the strip), but here are my thoughts so far...

  • It's true: the game is buggy. Thank god I'm not playing it on my crappy PC, because the crashes and loading times would've sent me up the wall. For the most part, the bugs are bearable, although the levitating/disappearing/teleporting NPCs are starting to get on my nerves.
  • Unmarked quests also annoy me. I want my quests to be spoon-fed to me, okay.
  • Still, I'm enjoying New Vegas more than Fallout 3. I think I'm weird.
  • As much as I liked Three Dog, I have a crush on Mr. New Vegas's voice. Black Mountain is still the best radio station, though.
  • I swore I wouldn't play a total goody-goody this time around, but I can't seem to help it. The prospect of doing evil things in a video game just bothers me for some inexplicable reason. I'm not a 'kill the NPC so I can steal their awesome hat' kind of player.
  • That said, I really enjoyed beating up the centurion PoW at Camp McCarran. Yes. I enjoyed using my simulated fists to 'punch' a collection of polygons that were shaped like a simulated twatbag.
  • I wish I'd picked the Wild Wasteland perk, but I figured that I might as well just check the easter eggs on youtube. :(
  • Some of the male NPCs look like they're wearing white lipstick. Perhaps they are. Who knows?
  • Freeside New Vegas is menaced by a gang of Elvis impersonators.
  • My current humanoid companion is Veronica, mainly because she's the first one I encountered. I think I'll stick with her, because 1) she provides a handy portable workbench, and 2) she can punch things to death. She's also voiced by Felicia Day, which makes her so cute that she's probably going to give me diabetes. Apparently a lot of players have a boner for Boone, although his wiki page makes him sound like Captain Manpain.
  • Speaking of Veronica, I also like that there's a decent amount of bi/gay characters.
  • On that note, New Vegas has the biggest population of butch women I've ever seen in a video game. CROPPED HAIR, STETSONS, AND AVIATOR GLASSES FOR EVERYBODY.
  • I am peeved that there are no functioning motorbikes. Being able to ride a motorbike across the post-apocalyptic desert would have been so awesome.
  • I accidentally had sex with Fisto the sexbot. It made me wish that the game had cheesy, awkward, slightly creepy sex scenes a la Dragon Age.
  • BTW, there's a Fallout kinkmeme.
  • I've got spurs that jingle jangle.

video games, fallout
