Something that totally throws me about the Dragon Age fandom is that a lot of the fics are Alistair/OC!PC. (Some of the OC!PCs are more Sueish than others, given Sturgeon's Law.) Obviously, the nature of the game practically encourages this, but I'm used to being in fandoms where shipping a popular character with your OC makes you worse than Satan, because shipping is Serious Business. At first, I was dubious as to how many people would actually want to read about the PCs of other players, but quite a few readers seem to be okay with it. And you can't really get around the fact that the PC is an important part of the story. I feel like I'm in fanfic bizarro world.
