Title: Burden on my Shoulders
Pairing: HayaRyu
Rating: PG-13 (or more)
Genre: Romance, Angst
Disclaimer: The plot is the only thing I own. *pouts*
Author’s Notes: My first attempt at angst! I have no idea where I got my angst inspiration from even though it’s already going to be Christmas tomorrow.. Heck, I don’t even have my Gokusen 2 DVD back yet from my classmate. *sniff* Oh well. Hope you guys enjoy this! Advanced Merry Christmas! ♥
Summary: Both of them thought that everything was already doing great. But none of them at least suspected of the responsibilities one has to hold when you’re the only son of someone who owns a great company.
Note: Italics meant flashbacks. *bows*
-
The room was dark-the only light it had was the one coming from the moonlight. In there, two young men were curled up on the bed, neither wanting to fall asleep despite the time their clock was setting: 2:00 AM. They were afraid that once one of them goes to sleep, the other won’t be there despite the promises they have made.
They didn’t make love that night because they thought that it would only bring physical pleasure and emotional need that they don’t really need right now. They had enough of it.
“Hayato…” one breathed exasperatedly. “I’m sorry.”
Hayato didn’t reply.
“We can still run away, you know,” the other, Ryu, tried to comfort.
Hayato still didn’t say anything. And he regretted that he didn’t. He just wrapped his arms closer to the younger one and the latter can hear Hayato’s fast heartbeat which made him cling onto him even more.
-
“Hey, are you okay? You seem to be very quiet and lonely over there.” a younger Hayato tried to converse with a younger Ryu. They were both in kindergarten that time. Everyone was in the playground enjoying their break time while Ryu was just on one of the benches sitting alone with his head down…until of course Hayato came and tried to be his friend.
“I’m Yabuki Hayato, what’s your name?” Hayato gave Ryu a cheeky grin which made the latter look up to him.
“I’m…I’m…O-Odagiri R-Ryu…” Hayato grinned even wider as he managed to get a response from the other. “Let’s be friends, okay?” Ryu could only nod as he let Hayato drag him somewhere in the playground.
-
“When are you…going to get married?” Hayato managed to ask even though he felt uncomfortable asking his lover…or his supposed-lover.
Ryu sighed and just buried his head deep into the latter’s neck. “Next month. They’re already preparing everything now.” He replied with the same amount of emotions.
“Oh,” Hayato said. “I think she’s really beautiful then.”
Ryu didn’t say anything about it.
-
“Hey! Stop picking on Ryu-chan!” Hayato, now in 1st grade, bravely stood in front of his best friend against the bigger bullies.
“Oh look, the little princess now has her own bodyguard.” one of the bullies teased and his comrades just laughed with him.
“Shut up! You don’t have the right to call Ryu-chan that way!” Hayato clenched his fists and began to fight with the 5 big men who were just his age.
Little Ryu was also hurt but not as much as Hayato was. When Ryu came home with Hayato’s company and the latter having to tell the story to Ryu’s father, that’s the time Ryu’s father started not liking Hayato-thinking that he would just bring trouble to his only son.
-
“Everybody’s going, Hayato. Tsucchi, Take, Hyuuga, even Yankumi’s going,” Ryu said.
“I know.” the other replied.
Ryu didn’t what to do, whether to ask him to actually come or not because that would really feel so awkward…and painful.
-
One of the girls from another school came and gave Ryu some chocolates in a heart-shaped box, hoping that Ryu would accept it. Ryu, being in one of the most powerful families and being expected to actually treat other nicely, accepted it…but without a smile. That was already enough for the girl as she ran away with a huge smile on her face.
“Woah,” Take whistled, since he joined Ryu and Hayato early. “I think she likes you, Ryu.” he teased. They were in middle school that time.
“Whatever,” Ryu said as they continued walking; oblivious to the fact that Hayato was watching with keen eyes the whole time.
For a few seconds Ryu let Hayato and Take go on for awhile for him to stop at a garbage can to throw the given chocolates away when he thought his company wasn’t looking. Apparently, Hayato managed to sneak a glance at what Ryu did and suddenly he felt himself grin with happiness and continued walking.
-
“Do you think she’s going to be easier to converse with rather than me?” Hayato tried to lighten the mood and he could feel Ryu smiling back despite the darkness.
Ryu shook his head on Hayato’s neck and said, “I don’t think she will be as talkative and as loud as you.”
“I don’t know if that’s a compliment or an insult, Ryu.” Hayato managed to chuckle.
“Just think whatever you want with it,” Ryu said.
-
“Friend? He’s not our friend,” Hayato said coldly at a surprised Yankumi. “He never was…” but deep inside he knew that what he just said was a big lie.
Yankumi looked at the others and they didn’t say anything about it for they knew that once Hayato had something on his mind, nothing could make him change it…except for the person he’s frustrated with.
-
“Do you really have to do it, Ryu?” Hayato whispered and looked at his lover’s eyes sadly. The other just nodded slowly and sadly.
“My father said that I’m going to need my own successor when I take over the company. He also said…” Ryu paused, seemingly not wanting to say what he needs to say next. “…that I’m not going anywhere when I’m with you…” he choked as tears fell freely for the first time on Ryu’s smooth, pale face.
Hayato ran his thumb to try and stop the tears falling from Ryu’s eyes. What he didn’t know was that he was also trying to stop his own tears that time as well.
-
“…If you don’t hurry, he’ll already be full of holes.” Kudo hung up. Blood rushed through Hayato’s body rapidly as he was filled with anger and furious and all he could think of was to get to his best friend as quickly as his body can.
All he could think of was Ryu, Ryu, Ryu.
-
Hayato looked over the church that was not actually far from his apartment. In that church was where Ryu was going to be married. He debated many times on whether he is actually going or not. The invitation stood neatly on his coffee table not being opened for once.
Ryu wasn’t the one who gave him the invitation. It was actually, for the first time, Ryu’s father.
He wanted to talk to Ryu the night before but he couldn’t get the courage to actually open his cell phone and speed dial his ex-boyfriend. The night that Ryu poured everything to him was also the night they broke up.
He then realized that what everyone says is true. You still can’t feel happiness even if you already have all the money in the world and not being able to buy the simplest thing you always wanted to have and that no one could say anything about it.
-
“We can still run away, you know,” the other, Ryu, tried to comfort.
Hayato still didn’t say anything. And he regretted that he didn’t. He just wrapped his arms closer to the younger one and the latter can hear Hayato’s fast heartbeat which made him cling onto him even more.
Hayato indeed regretted the offer or running away with Ryu. But that time, he also felt that deep inside, it would still be wrong. Eventually, Ryu would give in to his father’s request. Eventually will be the time that Hayato will feel more pain than he already used to have. And that eventually will be the time that they have to do everything right, no matter how painful it would actually bring to them.
-
He received 2 messages that day but not even bothering to read it which would still make him regret one day. His pinky ring shining brightly from the sun rays.
“I’ll always love you, Hayato.” which came from Ryu. His own pinky ring hidden around his neck.
and a “You’ll regret it even more if you run away from the pain of not going to your best friend’s wedding day.” from Yankumi.
END
