You can read about the curses all you want but it's still weird when you first experience them. I'm glad the slapping was because of a curse or otherwise I'd be pretty worried about you, Dean. And Ivy, sorry about raining everywhere yesterday ( Read more... )

Taking the chance to live a real life, and enjoy opportunities I never had in my own world. I try not to think so much about the future, which is liberating in a way.

Completely agree with you about the curses, by the way.

What do you mean by a real life?

One that's not just centered on work. You know, one with friends and socializing and doing new things. One that's not all about keeping secrets.

And how is that working out for you?

Better than I'd imagined it could. I know a lot of people are looking toward the time they can leave here, but I love the City.

Since I don't really know what awaits me back home I think I'll try and make the best of my time here.

I do know what's waiting. This is infinitely better, believe me.

Well, I've experienced one side of the afterlife and I'm not in any hurry to experience the next.

There's not much to experience. Just darkness. I've no idea how the City is supposed to fit in with what comes after death, considering that most of the people here are alive, and when I first arrived here so was I. But I'm not sure it's really meant to fit into anything. More of a waystation, maybe.

Darkness doesn't sound all that bad to me. And I guess if it's a way station then we should just make the best of it.

It's bad if that's all you get forever, except for something terrifying that's waiting there for you. I was never afraid of dying, but given the choice I'd much rather be here.

And I think that's a good way to look at it, John. Make the best of things. At least we've got a pretty interesting place to keep our interest.

I've been dead and in a place where just darkness would have been fine but I guess this is a lot better than that.

That's true, I've heard some of the curses are actually fun.

Suppose it's different for different worlds. But either way a city full of friendly people is definitely better than a place full of fear.

Oh, they are! The one where are souls turned into animals was fun. And even some of the embarrassing ones, like the days we all made lists or sang songs, were pretty amusing.

Yes, yes it is.

Singing ones? I'm not sure how great that sounds.

Admittedly it depends on how good a voice you've got, and whether you mind unexpected bits of songs coming out every time you open your mouth.

I don't remember ever singing, really. I was probably so bad at it at one point I subconsciously blocked out the desire to ever do it again.
