And the roof didn't cave in!

I went to mass for Connie tonight. Pretty good for an old pagan lady, huh? Her daughters had asked me if I would speak a little at the service along with a selected few others, and I had agreed. I'm really glad I did, but I was near throwing up ahead of time, I was so afraid. The first part of the mass is a blur in my memory, because I was concentrating on keeping my shoulders straight and my breathing steady, and NOT CRYING because I had to go up first when it came time for the eulogy. That turned out to be a real blessing. I couldn't be intimidated by the length or erudition of the other speeches, and I got to cry to my heart's content as I listened to them :) I actually made people laugh! [blush] That happened right off the bat when I shoved my glasses up on my head and said, "I have to take off my glasses so I can't see you all." It sort of went downhill from there. I think Connie actually grinned at me a couple of times, too, especially about the eyebrows. ("Who knew you'd look so funny without any? And that no one else would notice?") It was good to laugh with her again.

Here's a bit of little-known trivia about my friend: She's Don Ameche's daughter. (If you don't know who Don Ameche is/was, don't ask -- just go outside, pace 25 steps away from the wall of your house, turn and bend at the waist, and run headlong into the bricks.)

Well, anyway. At last she's properly said goodbye to, and I can sleep again perhaps.

tvini, I got your message last weekend, but I was at quilting class that day and worked the next. I'll try you this weekend, okay? All I have to do is make quilt blocks. I owe two for February birthdays.

anjea, if you're reading, my block for you is delayed, largely because of the aforementioned friend's death et al. Mea culpa, girl, and it'll be in the mail after the weekend. Along with the story about how I've already made it twice but it came out too small both times. Grrrrr!
