Prompt: 013. Yellow
Word Count: 508
Characters: Lily, James, Harry (technically)
Pairing: James/Lily, of course!
Summary: Lily is decorating the baby's room. ^^

“James?”

The former chaser looked up from his magazine that bragged complete coverage of the 1980 Quidditch World Cup to the woman at the doorway. “Yeah, Lils?” he asked carefully, taking another Bertie Bott’s Bean from the box beside him. Peppermint was not his favorite but far better than some of the others.

Her left hand rested lightly on her stomach as she frowned down at him for a moment. “I need you to look at something,” Lily said finally, turning away and disappearing into a room down the hall.

James got to his feet, following her into the nursery. Or, at least, that was what it was going to be if Lily ever decided on anything. An array of rejected color samples made a pile in one corner and he had to step over a half-assembled crib to get over to his wife.

She was scrutinizing the wall, a thoughtful look on her face. She had taped three new colors on the wall, her way of trying to pick one. James kept himself from sighing. The baby was going to come before they even decided on a wall color, and they still had five months to go.

“What do you think, Jamesie?” Lily asked, not even looking over at him.

James looked at the wall for a few moments, struggling to see the difference in the three shades of yellow. They all looked the same to him, but something did catch his attention after a moment. “None of them,” he replied, a streak of pride in his voice when he spoke. He could actually give her a straight answer this time. He regretted every time he had to say ‘whichever you like, Lils,’ since that meant another trip to the paint aisle and another few days of indecision.

There was a pause and looked over at him. “None of them?”

“Nope.”

Another pause. “Why?”

James shrugged. “I don’t think yellow is our color, Lily.”

Lily looked between her husband and the wall again. “Why not?” she asked, pointing to the second choice. “Golden rod is a perfectly fine color. And it’s neutral! How To Decorate a Baby’s Room said that-“

“My son is not having a yellow room.”

Lily frowned, looking at him instead of the colors on the wall. “You don’t know that it’s a son.”

“Then maybe we should find out so we can settle this?”

“No!” she replied quickly, changing her tactics. “And why isn’t it? 101 Ways to…”

“I’ve never heard of a bloke having a yellow room, Lily,” he explained calmly looking at the pile of rejected colors.

She seemed to struggle with words for a minute.

“What about this one?” he added helpfully, pulling out a light shade of red. “Gryffindor, right?”

“Fine!” she announced, turning to exit the room. “You can plan the whole bloody room since you seem to know so much more about babies than me!”

James sighed and dropped the color to the floor. “Come on, Lils… Do you want to go to the store again?”
