Notes: As the anniversary of the Potters' death, I thought I'd write something on it. Unlike most of my death pieces, though, this one is from James' POV. I don't know how I feel about it. It's also a style I don't usually write. It just kind of came out that way. Reviews are lovely. <3
He stands up. He’s sure that he heard something, and he doesn’t want to believe what he knows it is. He says her name hoarsely, looks over at her.
She has stood as well. Harry’s head of unruly black hair rests against her shoulder. She fearfully looks out the window.
He says her name again and tells her to hide, run, God, Lily, take the baby and get out, I’ll hold them off.
Her eyes flicker over him. She goes to speak. Instead she turns and runs up the stairs.
He turns to face it. A crash. The door’s open, and he’s staring into the eyes of the terrible Dark Lord who has -
He reaches in his pocket and doesn’t find anything. No. Elementary mistake, he scolds himself. Moody and Remus would have your head for something like this… He frantically checks another pocket. No. He can’t hold him off without a wand. He knew the end would happen but not without doing something to save her. He has to save her. Anything…
With a pang he realizes he has let her down.
He doesn’t show this. With a straight back and proud stance he faces Voldemort and his death.
